Keeping it simple was the name of the game for Wuerffel and YHC. Especially since over half of the PAX attending were of a #respect age you don’t want to complicate things lest we forget. Wuerffel kicked things off and where the warmup ended and the thang began is a little fuzzy. Here’s what happened to the best of my recollection.

Whatever it was it took about 20+ minutes.

When we had enough of listening to Wuerffel count YHC took the PAX and moseyed over to the circle around the pond asking them to pair up by size on the way. Once there we started a bear hunt. PAX 1 runs one way around the circle. PAX 2 bearcrawls the other way. When they meet PAX 1 buddy carries PAX 2 back to the start. Switch and then repeat. Plank it out until all have returned.

Then down to the big rocks. PAX 1 puts both hands on the rock. PAX 2 holds his legs for a suspended merkin. 20 merkins, switch. 15 merkins, switch. 10 merkins, switch. 15 merkins, switch.

Up to the benches. PAX 1 gets in dip position on the bench. PAX 2 holds his legs for a suspended dip. 20 dips, switch. 15 dips, switch. 10 dips, switch.

Two laps around the circle then RYAO back to the shovel flag.

Mary wound up as a plank hold.

Last night the Washington Capitals defeated the Vegas Golden Knights to win the Stanley Cup, arguably the most prized trophy in all of sports. The Vegas team is an expansion team of castoffs that other teams didn’t want and they came together to win the conference and are officially the second best team in hockey this year. A great story but I digress…what happens at the end of every hockey playoff series is really one of the best traditions in sports. After a week or two of playing the same team and literally beating the crap out of each other night after night the two teams come together, line up and shake each other’s hand. Not a quick slap but a real handshake where you look your opponent in the eye and acknowledge each other with encouraging words. For the losing team it sucks. They have to swallow their pride and acknowledge that the other team was better. For the winning team it is not an opportunity to gloat but to show appreciation to the other team for the challenge. It is the ultimate show of sportsmanship and something that is sorely lacking these days at a time when we are divided as a country and often won’t acknowledge the accomplishments of our opponents. There’s an adage “When you lose you should say very little. When you win you should say even less.” Let’s all strive for grace and humility whether we win or lose.
