A little while ago Nickelback reached out to YHC to Q somewhere in Hillsborough.  Now that YHC is residing in Northern Durham, the drive isn’t too bad to get out to these AOs.  YHC chose the Skunk on 11/21 because he had never been there before, and on an optional teacher workday, you just show up whenever you like. 12 PAX in all made it out this morning for a pre Turkey Day slobberknocker.

Warm-Up: in cadence

  • SSH x25
  • WMH x10
  • Merkin Jacks x10
  • Burp Jacks x10

The Thang:

Staying in the parking lot.  We split into two groups of 6.  One group was assigned the 45 lb KBs and the other group got the gravel filled Spartan bucket.  Each group was to bear crawl single file to the opposite end of the parking lot. The person at the back of the line would grab the weight and sprint to the front of the line, put the weight down, and then bear crawl.  Once the current person in the back reached the weight, they picked up and ran to the front, etc. At the end of the parking lot, the groups switched weights and bear crawled back. There was some mumblechatter about going faster, so PAX could carry the weight again. Luckily, the wise amongst us explained that the slower we bear crawled, the more carries we would get.

The Skunk faithful then lead YHC over to the baseball diamond, bringing the KBs with us. PAX got back into their teams for a friendly competition. One group would start at 2nd base and the other started at home.  One PAX would run a lap around the baseball field carrying a 45 lb kettlebell attempting to catch the other team. Once they complete a lap, they hand off to their next teammate to continue the chase. Teammates waiting alternated between jump squats and hand release merkins.  The first round was disappointing quick. YHC had did this several months ago at Falcon and there was an epic showdown. We met at the pitcher’s mound, and split up our teams by matching up PAX of similar speeds. We then tried a second time, but this time it may have finished even faster.  Oh well, hopefully the PAX still had fun and future Q’s can think of their own variations for their own sites. YHC promises that there is a lot of potential in it.

It was time to leave the baseball field and mosey over to the track.  YHC explained we would be doing the Cooper. Run a lap, and then complete 10 burpees, 10 squats, and 10 merkins.  Rinse and repeat with the reps decreasing by one each time. We were short on time, so YHC knew that the full 2.5 miles and 55 burpees, squats, and merkins would not get completed.  Most of the PAX was able to get about halfway through the Cooper. After we finished with the six, we moseyed back to startex for Mary.
