Remembering the Enola Gay

August 6, 2020

WHEN: 08/06/2020
QIC: WeedNFeed
PAX: Castaway, Floyd, Bellhop, WreckItRalph, LoneRanger, Cosmo, Houdini, Knope, Scapula

Today the Q chose to look back on a turning point in history—the dropping of the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, August 6, 1945. We acknowledged the complex legacy of that event; the mind-bending technical achievement, the happy end to a devastating war, the horrendous destruction and loss of life unleashed on a civilian population, the decades of cold war that followed. Admittedly, a heavy topic, well-remembered with heavy rocks.

Warm Up

  • SSH x 20 IC
  • Seal Jacks x 20 IC
  • Smerf Jacks x 20 IC
  • Good mornings x 10 IC
  • Slow merkins x 10 IC
  • Imperial walkers x 10 IC
  • Latrine Chinooks x 10 IC

The Thang

Cardiac-inspired mosey around the peanut with high knees, butt kicks thrown in for good measure.

Everyone acted the part of the Enola Gay, and picked a payload (rock) to represent “Little Boy”, the 8,000 bomb dropped 75 years ago. With our payloads, we completed 2 rounds of the following:

In a circle:

  • Curls x 20 SC
  • Overhead press x 20 SC
  • Thrusters x 20 SC
  • Bent over rows x 20 SC

Walked with payloads overhead about halfway around the peanut.

In a circle:

  • T-bombs x 10 IC
  • Divebombers x 10 IC
  • Imperial squats x 10 IC (thanks to Floyd for reminding the Q on round 2. Demerits handed out to everyone else)
  • Rock burpees x 10 OYO
  • WWIIs x 20 IC

Return to start.

After two rounds, we dropped our payloads and finished strong with some Mary.

Mary-ish

Mosey halfway around peanut. Circle up for 5 merkin ROF. Cosmo raised the bar with clap merkins, making all of us want to be manlier. Mosey to start, circle up for 5 hand-release merkin ROF.

Wouldn’t be a WeedNFeed Q without fire hydrants x 10 each leg, IC.

CoT

Floyd gauged the PAX’s feelings about postponing the Bull.

Iron PAX will happen next month, with Tobacco Road reserved to complete those challenges. Prepare yourselves.

Knope reminded us of the importance of good form. Check out this site, recommended by the eminently qualified Scapula, for good Merkin form to save your shoulders and elbows.
