Pre-Holiday Shopping Practice

November 14, 2018

WHEN: 11/14/2018

From the home office in Briar Chapel, the BC PAX had been conspiring for a few months for a BC Takeover day where all Churham AOs on 11/14 would be ‘taken over’ (led by) a BC PAX. YHC was privileged to get The Cougar which is always a treat to visit. We were provided a few requirements on the front end of the workout. 1) We had to incorporate a partner exercise; 2) We had to include an animal movement exercise; and 3) We had to have a non-traditional form of burpee. The wheels started turning about how to design a workout with a theme that was timely but also would allow adherence to the rules. Thanksgiving (and therefore Black Friday) is almost here so decided to go with the shopping theme.

Theme is holiday shopping – got to get in some practice!
Partner Up – Size does matter!

As partners we’re going to try to make it all the way around the track, in quarters.
1) Starting at Home Depot – Have to pickup a ‘Partner Wheelbarrow’ from Start to Top of Track (Partners trade off when necessary).
2) Going to Walmart – 10 Walmart “Rollback” Burpees OYO and then Buddy Carry another 1/4 around to bleachers.
3) Gotta get a toy – 20 “WWII Toy Soldiers” OYO and then BooBoo Bear Crawl 1/4 around the track to the south side of the circle.
4) After all of this shopping we are gassed and gotta have a drink! “Bloody Mary – ABCs” and then Buddy Carry (switching up this time) to starting point on the track.

5) Now break into groups of 3. Time for the partner ‘run like you stole something’ regiment. Partners 1 & 3 on one side and partner 2 on the other. This is a relay where Partner 1 takes off and runs halfway around the track to tag Partner 2. Partner 2 runs the other half back to the start where he tags Partner 3. Continue until all PAX have run a full lap and arrive back where they started. Turns out this was remarkably more complicated, especially considering we had to share the track with about 40 Air Force Recruits and could not easily distinguish the PAX from the recruits.

Back to the AO
All this shopping makes me want to watch a movie! How about Magnificent Seven, by the famed Yul Brynner? Seven sets of merkins with ALL PAX maintaining plank between sets. If any PAX breaks plank then ALL PAX have to do 10 burpees. It is possible that a few broke plank but honestly, it was dark and YHC could not tell for sure so no penalty burpees were issued.

YHC was talking to Yanni recently who mined all the Churham backblasts and then did some data analytics which revealed (not surprisingly) that Oct and Nov see a significant dropoff in PAX posting. The darker, colder weather has to be to blame. What was surprising was the increase in posting in January despite the typically cold weather. Must be all that guilt from the holidays and resolutions to do better. Bottom line is that we all need to find ways to encourage PAX to come out this time of year. We all come for the fitness but keep coming back for the fellowship. BC Takeover Day was conceptualized, in part, to do something different and fun. If you know of someone who hasn’t posted in a while reach out and try to encourage them to get back at it. We’ve all been there and know how much better we feel when we start our day in the gloom. Until next time. Aye!
