Title: BC-Takeover at The Skunk

A few weeks back, the incomparable Yanni had the nifty idea to have a Chatham man Q all of the Churham sites on the same day.  Rationale was that (i) it’s kinda fun and funny, (ii) it’s good to spread one’s wings and leave the comfort and confines of Chatham, (iii) you get to see old friends, and (iv) you get to make new friends.  It can also add some variety for both the Q and the Pax.

When Yanni says let’s do it, no one questions (well, except when he’s Q-ing some insanely masochistic exercise with an equally insane amount of reps, so insane that at some point he realizes that he’s the only one actually doing the exercise as the rest of us mere mortals have succumbed to his beatdown).  YHC got assigned The Skunk, and so on this fateful morning I got to meet some of our northern brethren and make some new friends.

The clock struck 0530, and we dared to think about What Would Yanni Do (#WWYD):

Warm-Up

  • SSH
  • Imperial Walkers
  • Slow Squats
  • Slow Merkins
  • Pax Choice

Main Event

Animal Movement with Block Merkins.

Since Yanni was our inspiration for the Chatham Infestation, I felt obliged to dig into the Yanni closet and find some of his more brutal exercises.  Three cinder blocks arranged along a parking lot line.  Starting about seven or eight parking spaces away, perform animal movement to blocks.  One merkin with a hand on the block; switch hands and perform another.  Sideways animal movement to next block and repeat.  After completing merkins on last block, movement back to start line.  Iterations of various movements below.  Plank / Squat Hold while waiting for your turn or for others to finish.

  • Bear Crawl to blocks; Plank Walk between blocks; Crawl Bear back to start
  • Crab Walk to blocks; Fiddler Crab between blocks; Walk Crab back to start
  • Broad Jump Burpees to blocks; Plank Walk between blocks; Broad Jump Burpees back to start
  • Sprint to blocks; Plank Walk between blocks; Bernie back to start

Merkin Burpee Pyramid

Another Yanni favorite – the merkin burpee pyramid; a particular favorite of his to silence mumble chatter.  On one side of the parking lot, perform one burpee (to include incorporated full range of motion merkin).  Run to opposite side of parking lot.  Perform two burpees, but with each one including two merkins.  Run back to start point.  Perform three burpees, but with each including three merkins.  Continue the pyramid up to five burpees (with five merkins in each burpee).  And then back down to one.

Shits and Giggles.

Yanni decreed that we should include (i) animal movement; (ii) burpee variation; and (iii) partner exercise in our #BC-Takeover shenanigans.  With the first two ingredients in the books, and with time getting thin, we partnered up for the always popular Bear Crawl Buddy Drag!

One man assumes bear crawl position, while the other lies beneath and lovingly wraps his arms around the bear crawler.  On the ‘go’ command, bear crawler bear crawls with the underneath man holding on and pushing with his feet.  Swap positions at other side and return to start point.

Note: Buffay had the great idea to rename this lovefest the “Koala Carry”.

COT/BOM:

F3 is far more than just a ‘workout group’.  The mission of F3 is to plant, grow, and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male leadership in the community.  YHC had the fortunate opportunity to participate in the Raleigh GoRuck Tough event over the weekend, and more fortunately, had the opportunity to witness the power of F3 in action.  Brothers Elf and Rambler summed it better than I can – Elf noticed that the F3 men were mentally strong and constantly supporting one another throughout the event; “anyone can join a gym; it takes someone special to join a movement.”  And Rambler reinforced “For you, I will not quit.”  The powers of leadership & followership, fellowship & friendship, accountability & shield lock that are pervasive among our brotherhood leave me speechless.  Thank you so much for the opportunity to lead today, and more importantly, thank you for your support.  Aye!

Moleskin:

  • Maybe next time we should buy each other a drink before the Koala Carry…
  • Welcome FNG Sterilizer!
