Never too old to skip

November 6, 2018

WHEN: 11/06/2018
QIC: Rambler
PAX: Bright Idea, Cricket, Horny Toad, Mumbles, Paperboy, Rambler, Slayer

4 arrived at 0500 to get in a quick 2 mile ruck. 2 went on their way as we made it back to the AO where 5 additional PAX were ready and willing to be lead. Late yesterday Horny Toad relayed that we were in need of a Q. I had intended on rabbit-ing anyway as part of my taper into the Raleigh GORUCK Tough this Friday night, so I might as well Q it too!

The Thang

Fellowship job from The Rabbit to The Wall. Once at The Wall, YHC measured out a 40 yard stretch of parking lot and pulled out the sprint drills that were done last month at The Moose. For each drill, we did 5 repetitions.

  • High Knees—>Sprint: Improves the knee drive “knee up, toe up” component of the leg cycle.
  • Straight Leg Striking—>Sprint: Emphasizes a pulling and cycling pattern of the foot strike during top speed mechanics. Activate glutes. Pull foot directly under center of mass. Keep toes up.
  • Buttkicks—>Sprint: Encourages a faster leg cycle by shortening the lever arm of the leg.
  • Power Skips—>Sprint: Focuses on the pre-loading and unloading phases of the knee drive.
  • Forward Bounding—>Sprint: Optimizes power production for each foot strike while encouraging triple extension for the acceleration phase.

We fellowship jogged back to the clubhouse, where YHC was thoroughly DONE and proclaimed it was time for Mary and Corpse Pose. Once completed we dove into announcements…one of which was the reminder that The Rabbit was 60 minutes, not 45….

Luckily, the roundabout is close by. We moved out and did 4 or 5 loops of 1/2 fellowship, 1/2 ramping up. By the last lap, the latter 1/2 was AYG

COT

You will never always be motivated. You have to learn to be disciplined.

Motivation can be fleeting. Don’t rely on it to see you through. Instead, use that motivation to establish and create discipline in your daily life. YHC was motivated to lose a ton of weight, was motivate to conquer a Spartan, was motivated to eat clean. YHC did all those things, and as of late has lapsed back into old habits because the discipline is not there. Discipline requires intention, planning, and executing. Go forth, and be disciplined today!
