YHC returned to the Piranha after a far too long absence. We are creatures of habits and my Tuesday habits are not great.
Looking for some inspiration as I planned the day’s festivities, brother Cosmo delivered with a timely barb about abdominal exercise videos and charted our course.
Warm-up:
SSH, Good Mornings, WMH, LBAC, Reverse, Slow Merkin, Slow Squat
We began with a 4 corners grinder. Basic premise was to hit the 4 corners of the parking lot via different methods of travel all engaging the chest/shoulders.
From corner 1 to corner 2, travel merkin (right hand leads)
From corner 2 to corner 3, bear crawl
From corner 3 to corner 4, travel merkin (left hand leads)
From corner 4 back to corner 1, crawl bear
Next we set out to recreate another 4 corner, this time an escalator, with slightly obtuse angles across the school campus.
Starting parking lot – 10 burpees OYO, then mosey to:
Basketball courts – 10 burpees OYO, 20 Carolina Dry Docks, then mosey to:
Back parking lot – 10 burpees OYO, 20 Carolina Dry Docks, 30 Jump Squats, then mosey to:
Mid peanut loop – 10 burpees OYO, 20 Carolina Dry Docks, 30 Jump Squats, 40 LBC’s
Next we partnered up for Ab work. Partner 1 completes a full peanut/filbert(?) lap, while partner 2 performs a called ab exercise continuously until he returns. Flap jack and repeato. Both plank it out until all PAX are finished.
We got in 4 rounds of this, with approximately 2 minutes per exercise for each PAX:
(1) Hello Dolly
(2) Peter Parker
(3) Flutter Kicks
(4) Sassy Planks
Sassy planks are directly stolen from my M’s virtual exercise classes. They seemed like a perfect capper to the 8-minute abs inspired Q. If only YHC could have squeezed into some leggings and found a fluorescent headband. Maybe next time.
The real debate is if Sassy Planks should be the official exercise name or if a cooler name is merited. One Direction had a great suggestion with Salsa Planks and the act of lifting and crossing legs does conjure up images of dance steps, a la Salsa Dancing. I think the only fair thing to do is compromise and officially dub them “Sassy Salsa Planks”.
