Honoring Zachary Tellier

September 29, 2018

WHEN: 09/29/2018
QIC: Grunge
PAX: Catskill, Uzi (Respect!), Malware, Potter (2.0), Rebar, FNG Drift (2.0), Red October, Grunge

I had this workout and date circled on my calendar for some time now. I wanted to pay tribute to a selfless and brave hero who made the ultimate sacrifice for his fellow soldiers and brothers, his combat unit, and our nation.

INTRO

Met up with Uzi and Malware for a 3 mile EC ruck around campus.

Arrived at the AO to 5 more awesome PAX (Catskill, Red October, Potter – Malware’s 2.0 – and Rebar and his 2.0, an FNG). Nice!

Greetings/fist bumps

The ruck went a tad bit long, so we hurried and took it down to Hooker Field and circled up by the UNC logo

0632. Go time.

MAIN EVENT

The fact that our warm up rep counts totaled 11 (including the 56 [“5+6”] IC SSHs) was not random. I introduced our workout for today:

Zachary Tellier

  • This WOD was created in memorial and tribute to Sgt. Zachary D. Tellier, 31, of Charlotte, NC, originally from Manchester, NH. He was a combat infantryman/paratroooper with the 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Bridgade Combat Team, stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. Tellier was deployed with the 82nd Airborne in Afghanistan. While conducting a mounted patrol, a vehicle in his unit drove over and detonated a bomb, which set it on fire. Sgt Tellier ran over and pulled two fellow soldiers from the burning vehicle to safety. Despite suffering severe burns, he jumped up in the turret and managed to orgaize a swift counter attack on the Taliban. He received the Bronze Star with valor for his bravery and actions. He ultimately died on September 29, 2007 from the wounds he suffered from this incident.
  • Today marks the 11th anniversay of Sgt. Zachary Tellier’s death.

BOM

YHC took us out in prayer. Thankful for the beautiful morning, for our health, the gift of our lives. Thankful for the brothers who came out today, for the fellowship and brotherhood. Thankful and pray for our children – that we may be given guidance, wisdom, and strength to lead them by example. That they may grow to follow the right and true path, to honor God, and find success in all areas that He intends. Pray for Red October and his family during their move and time of transition. That process will go smoothly, expeditiously, and without incident. Prayers for the PAX at TBL this morning and for all PAX in our region. Prayers for those recovering still from the aftermath of Florence, and for those who continue to work on relief efforts both down range and here at home.

Please continue to pray for all those who serve and pay tribute to those who make the ultimate sacrifice for our nation and our freedom. Really appreciated the welcome to The Ram. An awesome AO with an awesome Site Q in Uzi. Until next time, aye!
