October 1st 1986. The New York Football Giants were at the start of a season that would see the great coaching tandem of Bill Parcels and Bill Belichick lead a team anchored by Lawrence Taylor and Phil Simms to a 14-2 record and a Super Bowl Championship. The New York Mets downed the Montreal Expos 6-4 starting a 5 game win streak that would close out the regular season, a season that eventually culminated with a thrilling, albeit cocaine fueled, World Series victory over the Red Sox. Ed Koch was about 8 years into his 12-year stretch as the Mayor of New York. Ronald Reagan was President, and Oliver North was still about a month away from having his side project go public. All of this provides the backdrop for the birth of YHC. 32 years later,6 PAX did Ruck PT EC and 20 PAX gathered in the gloom to celebrate, F3 style.

Warmup:

SSH x 32 IC

Slow Squat x 16

Merkin x 16 IC

The Thang:

YHC believes one of the best gifts is the regift. It is a great way for a gift to find a great home. Grunge was kind enough to share the gift of the slaughter open with YHC and all of the PAX at Carpex a while back. What better time to gift it back to the PAX?

10 Burpees OYO

9 Squats

8 Burpees OYO

7 Squats

2 Burpees OYO

1 Squat

10 Burpees OYO

It was during this open that YHC realized Eddie the Eagle had decided to keep his ruck on for the workout. It did not slow him down.

Next PAX partook in a recovery mosey to the playground and paired off. No account was made for size. Each pair would preform 32 total pull-ups. The pull-ups were done AMRAP style, switch as needed. At each switch 5 Merkins. Balls to the Wall hold when done.

Once all PAX were done everyone resumed the Balls to the Wall position for some handstand pushups. Plan was for 32 of these, but if you can’t do it don’t Q it, so with that in mind we did 16.

Mosey to the gazebo where PAX were split into 2 relatively even numbered groups. One group would be at the curb and the other in the gazebo on the benches.

Round 1:

32 Curb Irkins

32 Dips

Flapjack

Round 2:

32 Jump Squats

32 Step Ups

Mosey back to the AO for some sprint work. Still in 2 groups the PAX lined up at opposite ends of the parking lot, along 2 rows. Each group would sprint to the far end of the lot and preform an exercise. 10 squats at one end and 10 Merkins at the other. Repeato until time ran out. Did exactly count how many of these were done, but we can likely agree on a lot.

Mary:

Ring of Fire Merkins x 3

Someone mentioned doing it again, so we did. Ring fo Fire Merkins x 5

Announcements:

-Saturday 10/20 is the Carpex CSAUP event, the Odyssey. Info is at F3carpex.com. Check it out, we will be sending a nice contingent.

-New goal for the Florence relief effort is $50,000. Go Fund Me let us know that we reached our initial goal in above average time, so we should shoot for more. Skynard, Au Jus, Borland and several others are doing a great job heading this thing up and helping our brothers in need. They are also using the work they and we have done as a template for F3 to set SOP to address these type of relief efforts going forward. Thanks to all for making this work.

BoM:

I’m not too caught up in the reflecting on your life on your birthday. Maybe that’s a function of age, or just trying to live more in the moment as opposed to the future by way of the past. Whatever it is, the only reflection I have allowed myself as I turn the number from 31 to 32 is regarding positive outlooks. I have battled being negative as long as I can remember, and it seems to have framed a large portion of my younger years with poorer results than expected. I’ve spent the past several years trying to be better about that. Trying to be more positive. Looking at situations that may seem to suck as a springboard to learning and growing. Giving other people the benefit of the doubt instead of assuming the worst. F3 has helped me to grow and try to not just have a positive outlook, but to be a positive force in my community as well. I give all the credit for that to you men, you guys have some of the best outlooks I have ever been around. I don’t know much, but I can say that when my approach is better, and my mindset is correct, things tend to work out just a little bit better. So, long story short, get your mind right and your headspace positive and shit will fall into place better.
