Evolving and Ageing

Today is my birthday – so I’ll be saying “43” during name-o-rama for a while. Originally I didn’t have plans to Q this week. Not because I was opposed to it – but I looked at the Q sheets and they were all full so I thought  “Cool”. Last week I casually mentioned that I had a birthday coming up and Vice immediately grabbed Maraschino who was on the sheet for today at Paradise and asked if he’d switch with me (note that I did not request this change). Maraschino happily obliged and here we are. F3 is often the best part of my day so I’m grateful that Vice took the initiative and made this happen. If I’m being honest with myself I probably wouldn’t have sought this out. So thanks to Vice and Maraschino for getting me the Q. I should point out that this is also my Paradise VQ. I’ve been posting to this site for a while now – high time I stepped up and led one.

Unlike my Q at The Jag on Tuesday (also unexpected) – I did have some time to prepare for this one. But as Briar Chapel OG Marky Mark is fond of saying – “There really are no new workouts – it’s really all probably been done before.” So as many of you know – my favorite trick is digging into the archives of Churham and other regions for solid looking workouts which I then plagiarize repurpose as my own. I’ve had my eye on this one for a while and it fit well with a birthday theme and a recent conversation held in my home regarding ageing (more on that in the COT). But to give credit where credit is due – this one was originally conducted by BC Legend Grunge back in 2018. So off we go:

Warmup:

SSH IC x 43

Hand Release Merkins x 23 (20 additional Hand Release Merkins to be completed during the ME for the birthday 43).

The Thang:

  1. Evolution (Growing Up)

From the bottom of The Parking Lot, PAX will use a different mode of travel to the top of the hill. At the top, each will perform 5 hand release merkins, then run back down the hill and crunch out 10 WWIIs. Low squat hold or pick up the six before starting the next round together. We will move up the evolutionary chain with each round.

  • Inchworm
  • Bear Crawl
  • Bernie Sanders
  • AYG Sprint

2. De-Evolution (The Slow Decline)

After last round of evolution, PAX run to the top of the parking lot. From the top, PAX will use a different mode of travel downhill. At the bottom, each will perform 10 BW Squats, then run back up the hill and punch out 5 Burpees. Plank hold or pick up the six before starting the next round together. We will move down the evolutionary chain with each round.

  • Bounds
  • AYG Sprint
  • Lunge Walk
  • Crab Walk

We ran short on time so we omitted the AYG and Crab Walk

COT:

So we recently discovered that a close family member – age in the mid 60s – is having a really difficult time physically in a number of areas including some incontinence issues. We were shocked due to this person we know and love being so “young” and we still think of them as so physically capable. My wife and I were talking about it and noted with irony that we spend a lot of our time changing the diapers of our youngest and I jokingly said that we are currently in that sweet spot where all of that is under control for both she and I. I said it jokingly – but upon further reflection realized that its really true – and a birthday is the perfect time to think about it and be grateful for today and all that we have going for us. This life is constantly changing – we are perpetually growing and evolving – so celebrate today and all that we can do and have going for us – celebrate it every day. Until next time – AYE!
