Taking my cue from Mother Superior, I decided we at Devil’s Ridge would endeavor on a spiritual journey: to climb the mountain and seek enlightenment. In so many traditions, the mountain stands as an obstacle and invitation to greatness. At the peak, a man comes to a fuller knowledge of himself and his purpose. So, 23 dutiful PAX (including 2 FNGs) arrived after the evening storms had passed to tackle the beast of a hill, and conquer both the mountain, and themselves. 7 joined PAX Doogie for some EC at Al Buehler.

Warmup:

25x SSH
10x WMH
10x Imperial Walkers
12x LBACs and Reverse
10x Slowcount Merkins

The Thang:
1) First, we had to ascend the mountain. Quick mosey to the Science Drive garage, where YHC explained the setup:

  • 10x moutain climbers
  • bearcrawl up the ramp
  • (parking deck level)x burpees (3 at level 3, 4 at level 4, and so on).

Since we started at level 2, we did not neglect doing 3 burpees OYO before getting started. The ascent was completed with gusto, as we fearlessly conquered ourselves and the mountain.

2) Our celebration could not be had until we had made it to the summit. Upon reaching the top of the parking deck, YHC had a little victory dance (song?). PAX and YHC assumed the pushup plank position during a recording of “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees as an anthem of our success, doing a single-count merkin whenever the titular verse was sung. A few PAX suggested holding a pushup during the “liiiiiiiiiiiIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiIIIIIIIIIiiiiiiiiive” of the chorus. But we weren’t celebrating THAT hard.

3) About 80% of climbing accidents happen on the descent, so we decided to take the stairs, where we ran into Johnny Drama from @thehoneybadger. Mr. Drama, always the diva, wanted in on the action, so we did 3 12x cadence count Johnny Dramas just for him. We had a hard time moseying after that.

4) Upon arriving to the 2nd floor, we did a little spelunking with 10x Australian mountain climbers. Didn’t seem to get us anywhere.

5) Did a quick set of 15x dips, derkins, and erkins outside the mountain/Science Drive parking garage, just to prove to the mighty beast we still had a little fight left in us before the mosey to the base camp.

Mary:

  • 25x LBCs
  • 20x Hammers
  • 15x Flying Vs
  • 10x Heels to Heaven
  • 10230182930127x flutter kicks

COT: No announcements. Prayers for Toolbox’s friend and his troop of Green Berets, and for YHC’s friend Madison who passed away, and her friends and family. Welcome FNGs Gunner and Golden Delicious!

EDIT: Sources told me we only did 50 flutter kicks. Sure didn’t feel that way….
