In the work of campus ministry, two of the main spiritual questions I get the most are: how do I “carry my cross” and “overcome walls in my faith”? Well, I never have a good answer. But I know how to carry cinderblocks, and do wall exercises. So, one morning in Thursday, that’s exactly what YHC and 9 other PAX decided to do. Justice, Beano and ShakeIt led a 5k EC.

Warmup:

20 SSH
10 IW
10 WMH
12 LBAC and reverse
10 Good Mornings
10 Slowcount Merkins

The Thang:

YHC grabbed a cinderblock from a pile out back. We proceeded from location to location in a modified Ricky Bobby run to visit some walls in Durham. The addition to the RB was that the front person also had to run with the cinderblock. YHC had to remind the PAX to be careful, as they were, in fact, running with a cinderblock.

1st Wall (@ Liberty Apartments):

  • People’s Chair Ring of Fire + pass the cinderblock, and either 10 cadence count hold straight out, or 10 presses
  • 10 Aussie Mountain Climbers
  • 5 Handstand Pushups

2nd Wall (lot by Geer St. Gardens)

  • People’s Chair Ring of Fire + pass the cinderblock, and either 10 cadence count hold straight out, or 10 presses
  • 10 Aussie Mountain Climbers
  • 5 Handstand Pushups

A brief interlude at the park for an Usain Bolt, except the person running would call out an exercise, run to the end of the park, do 5 of the exercise they called out, and run back, while the remaining PAX just did that exercise OYO. There were a lot of pushups called out….

3rd Wall (wall by footpath near skatepark):

  • People’s Chair Ring of Fire + pass the cinderblock, and either 10 cadence count hold straight out, or 10 presses
  • 10 Aussie Mountain Climbers
  • 5 Handstand Pushups

We made it back a bit early, so YHC had a (terrible) improvisational idea: pass the cinderblock around after doing 10 presses, while the remaining PAX did overhead claps until everyone finished. When you passed the block, you joined in the claps. YHC nearly tossed merlot, but the remaining PAX persevered and we carried through to the end with 55 cadence count overhead claps. It was really an awesome experience where the PAX held me up as I executed what stands to date as my worst idea yet.

Mary:

20 LBCs
10 WW2s
15 Freddie Mercuries
15 Hammers
40 flutters
20 flying vs

COT and Prayers: Prayers for Beano’s friend/F3er struggling with cancer, for Justice and clarity in the workplace, and YHC’s future and YHC’s girlfriend moving away to Nashville.
