Paula Abdul Shows No Mercy

May 28, 2018

WHEN: 05/28/2018
QIC: Shake It
PAX: Weenie Roast, Tater Tot, Snots, Sal Pal, FNG, Driftwood, Sawtooth, Shake It

YHC pulled into the pull-up bars on time, but was the lone car in the parking lot.  After a few minutes it was obvious that no one else wanted a piece of EC, so YHC drove up to the visitors lot.  With 20+ minutes to burn, YHC ran some laps around the track, and scouted out the restroom facilities adjacent to the track.

0530 rolled around and numbers were low.  Sal Pal said an FNG would be on his way, so YHC made sure we stayed in the parking lot for a little while for the FNG and any other stragglers.

Warm-Up: All exercises completed in cadence

  • SSH x25
  • Windmill x10
  • Imperial Walkers x10
  • Lunges x10
  • LBAC x12 – forward and reverse

The Thang:

Needing to stay in the parking lot, we performed a Paula Abdul.  For those not familiar: bear crawl two spaces forward and perform 5 merkins, crawl bear one space backwards and perform 5 merkins.  Continue to do this until at the end of the parking lot. During this time the FNG arrived as well as Snots. We completed the Paula, and everyone was feeling it, especially our new guy.  Sal Pal did his thing, and checked on his buddy who had ventured back towards the car.

All 8 of us slowly made our way over to the BFH.  In typical Devil’s Ridge fashion, you can’t just go up the hill without specifically using it in some twisted way.  Today, YHC had the PAX gorilla crawl up the hill and to the emergency phone. After completing the gorilla crawl many of the PAX may have considered using the phone.  YHC went to pick up the six to discover that our FNG was leaving. Sal Pal went after him, but told the rest of us to keep going.

Now only 6 strong, we made our way onto the track.  PAX were told to partner with someone who is close to their speed.  YHC got stuck with Weenie Roast, or did Weenie Roast get stuck with Shake It, #conundrum.  We did a Catch Me If You Can around the track. One partner drops and does 5 burpees, and then races to catch their partner.  The other partner is backwards running around the track. Once caught they switch roles. We did this until YHC decided to stop it.

We then left the track and made our way down the sidewalk leading towards the parking deck and the visitor lot.  YHC found a nice area with a low wall and we used the walls for 20 reps of 4 different exercises: step-ups, dips, box jumps, and derkins.

The quality of the sidewalk was better than that of the parking lot, so we stayed there for some mary and COT.

Mary:  Each PAX lead an exercise

  • Spiderman Merkins (Weenie Roast)
  • Outlaws (Tater)
  • LBCs (Driftwood)
  • American Hammers (Snots)
  • Flying V’s (Sal Pal)
  • Heels to Heaven (Shake It)

COT:

  • Remember the fallen who have served our country and guaranteed our freedom.
  • Murph at 0700 at Phillips Middle (Animal House)
  • Because the FNG did not finish the workout, we were unable to name him.  Hopefully Sal Pal will be able to convince him to try it out again.
