Memorial Day is a day to remember those who have given their lives to protect our country.  It is easy to take for granted the myriad freedoms we enjoy each day.  We often live our lives exercising such tunnel vision that we forget what got us here, we forget history, and our memory of what made our lives possible ebbs and flows as the ephemeral tides of our American Dream.

Remember that we each live a life full of possibility and stability that is predictably peaceful because of those who have fought and died defending our country and its values.  Most people do not like to think about it, let alone speak of it, but force has been necessary to achieve and sustain our way of life.  I am grateful to those brave enough to sacrifice it all for the rest of us.

Hug your families.  Take a second to say, “I am lucky and grateful for what I have!” out loud.  Own your outcome in this world.  It is the least we can do for the people we honor today.
