5 HCs means 17 PAX

January 4, 2021

WHEN: 01/04/2021
QIC: Jinx
PAX: Big Kat (Respect), Brotox, Elwood, Arthur, Dogwood, Nightshift, Botched, Slug, Boucher, Draper, Gordo, Harbaugh, Disc (FNG), Boot (FNG)(Respect), Popeye, Ocho

Today YHC was a mystery Q at Kenan.  This was a step outside of the comfort zone, having never attended a Kenan bootcamp before – but it was fun.  Qing is always a step outside the comfort zone for this correspondent.  Looking at the Slack channel, one could see there were about 5 HC’s, so YHC didn’t prep Nightshift ahead of time with the workout plan.  Bit of a mistake which was made clear when we counted off after the warm-up.  17 PAX, ready to Mosey.

YHC figured today’s workout could be a little tough, given the PAX of Kenan are used to having to deal with Nightshift, so the plan was laid out accordingly.  Anyone who wanted to modified and two FNGs put forth some strong efforts!  Big welcome to Disc and Boot.

Announcements

Big Kat gave some details on the vaccine roll-out. Here’s an attempt at a summary:  NC has announced it’s move into the second phase of distribution – phase 1B, which will include individuals over 60, individuals over 50 with front-facing essential jobs and those with pre-existing conditions, etc. We should be hearing more about this in the next week or two.  Despite having received the vaccine, when that time comes, PAX should still mask up to avoid transmission of the virus, despite virus susceptibility (symptomatic) decreasing notably in clinical trials 10 days after the first dose.

Name-o-rama

BOM/not BOM – Thanks to Nightshift for thinking of YHC for the mystery Q, and thanks to the PAX for for the trust and the opportunity to lead.  We don’t end a lot of workouts in Chatham with a prayer, it’s usually more of a Ted-talk for some reason, and YHC is not all that good at praying out loud anyway, being Catholic and all.

Last year was a tough one for a lot of people.  YHC encouraged PAX to  write down a list of personal accomplishments from the past year.  Did you become a teacher for your child?  Did you scrap your original goals to focus on something quite different? Did you convert your dining room to a home office?  How much extra time did you get to spend with your family?  Did you pick up a new hobby?  Or seven?  Did you build anything? Fix anything?

The past year was challenging for all, and for some tragic, but it showed us how adaptable we can be as humans.  We’ll never forget this year, but one hopes we can remember all the good.  Until next time in the gloom, Aye!
