The Warm Heart of Africa

May 18, 2018

WHEN: 05/18/2018
QIC: Zika
PAX: Skynyrd, Mothman, Frank-loyd-bunyan, ice, marky mark, nescafe, zook, link, GTL, sneaky shoes, eddie the eagle, Stubbs, sussudio, john boy, yanni, gomer, fat cat, mumbles, grunge, goat cheese, chum, flenderson, rambler

EC – several strong men prepared for the BC Murph and were soaked in sweat by the time the rest of the Pax arrived.  Nevertheless they persisted.  Grunge was unrecognizable without his Goatee and was mistaken for an FNG.

Warm up – SSH, IW, WMH, arm circles, and merkins.

The Thang – The workout was very simple yet effective. Begin with a fellowship paced jog punctuated by multiple sets of 10, 15 or 20 burpees OYO.  After a century of burpees the Fellowship arrived at The Wall.  There the brethren were divided in two with one group doing BTW while the other did air squats. Switch it up then repeat with BTW and lunges.

YHC noticed a very long tennis court and lead the men there to endure bear crawl suicides. Followed of course by a lunge walk and more bear crawls.

Mary – Circle up for ring of fire with 5 merkins per PAX.  Followed by Mary with Rambler introducing little baby leg circles, followed by Heels to Heaven and flutter kicks. With that time was up and the complaining stopped.

COT – Prayers- keep in mind the PAX doing the Heavy this weekend and running a 50 miler in DC.

Announcements – Memorial Day at #thethicket there will be a convergence, Saturday, 5PM in Raleigh Singlet leads a chior, eddietheeagle and zika are going .  Zika’s Malawi Children’s Initiative will hold a fundraiser June 9th at the Horace Williams house. There will be a 2nd F next Wednesday beer swap at the Wall.

NMS – YHC always enjoys getting together with the BC PAX and recalled when he first joined F3 The Wall did not exist and many members (Yanni, Boyardee, Marky Mark, Goatcheese, Trump/Link) would journey to Bastille and The Cougar.  It is great to see the group grow so large over such a short time with so many great names and such great strength.

YHC has been reading an article forwarded by Wuerffel who travels the world and does amazing development work. The article (link attached) describes Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world, where the majority of the population lives on $107 a year (the article has a great quote “about the cost of your sneakers”).  Yet Malawi has half the murder rate of the United States. The article describes the corruption which has crippled the economy and one hopes that will improve. However, it amazes YHC how a country so poor could be so peaceful that it is called the Warm Heart of Africa.  All are encouraged to reflect on this level of poverty and what can be done to help. Please consider attending Cocktails for Kids, June 9th.
