Our brother Sweet Peas has been posting long enough and regularly enough that I was surprised when he recently asked what was a Tabata. Tabata training is a high intensity training method discovered by Japanese scientist Dr. Izumi Tabata and a team of researchers from the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Tokyo. One group exercised moderately for an hour 5 days a week and another group exercised for 4mins 20secs 4 days a week. I picture moderate exercise to be like those in the gym who barely break a sweat. HIIT is going all out for 20secs and resting 10secs for 8 rounds. Their research revealed that high-intensity interval training has more impact on both the aerobic and anaerobic systems.
With that academic explanation of Tabata, we set out to give Sweet Peas the real life experience.
