Summer sledding

June 6, 2018

WHEN: 06/06/2018
QIC: Moore
PAX: Bench, Smokes, Nucky, Homes, Knoxville, Kevin, Zika, French Lick, Band Camp, Turnpike, Cheesesteak, Treehouse, Stevie Ray, Singlet, Dodo, Spooky, Moore

4 PAX arrived at 5:05 for some Smokes-led fartleks. They’re basically they’re Swedish interval training. Funny name, but hard work!

Back at the AO, we were joined by 13 more PAX to make 17 on this fine morning. Must say it’s been pretty nice with the humidity letting up, and the gloom steadily fading. 5:45, and we got down to work…

Warm-up

Mosey around the track… regular, high knees, butt kick, backward run, regular

10 Willie Mays Hayes

10 cotton pickers

10 arm circles forward/back

Next, this was intended to round out the warm-up, but may have pushed beyond this a bit… Lt. Dan style ladder with single count tuck jumps and cadence count merkins: 1 tuck jump, 1 cadence count merkin, 2 tuck jumps, 2 cadence count merkins… up to 10. Sufficiently warmed up, we moseyed back over to the track.

The Thang

YHC’s two homemade sleds (plywood w/ 2×4 runners) made a reappearance. Instructions were to pair up by size and then split into two overall teams. Teams rotated to pull the sled with one PAX sitting on the sled and the other pulling. The goal was to go for max distance (i.e. failure) before swapping partners. Use chalk to mark the max distance for the pair. Then, jog with the sled back to the starting point. While sleds were being pulled, remaining PAX rotated various exercises:

  • Jacks
    • Plank jacks – 25
    • Little man jumping jacks – 15
    • Side shuffle hops – 50
    • Seal jacks – 45
    • Crab jacks – 20
  • Planks
    • Low
    • Bows/toes
    • Regular
    • Balls-to-the-wall
  • Catch-me-if-you-can

Once all teams had completed one round, team 2 was clearly on top. It pays to be a winner! Team 1 assigned 20 burpees. Team 2 assigned 20 tuck jumps. Finishing quickly, Team 2 was given an additional 10 burpees.

With 10-minutes remaining, Spooky/Knoxville and Singlet/French Lick lined up for a championship round pull. While they pulled, the remaining PAX cheered them on as they bear crawled / lunged walked behind. It was a tight match-up withSpooky/Knoxville pulling away, but Kevin stepped in to lend French Lick a hand, and it ultimately ended in a hard fought tie.

Mary

Having just 90 seconds left for Mary, and plenty of planking already on the books, we wrapped up with 15 Nolan Ryan’s each side.

COT

We are the average of the people we’re surrounded by. And, F3 Churham is a fine group to set that standard! Look for the unique qualities that those around us bring and how they inspire us to constantly elevate our game. And, for those around us we may struggle with, seek out the ways to lift them up. Aye!
