Stick to Your Guns

April 29, 2019

WHEN: 04/29/2019
QIC: Shake It
PAX: Weenie Roast, Bitcoin, Dial Up, Knope, Banana Split, Sweater Vest, Coxswain, Scurvy, Pikachu, Jeeves, Happy Trees, Sawtooth, Driftwood, Bluth, 2Ply, Larry Legend, Nails (super late, like COT late)

As a teacher, I’m used to having things planned out. I like to have a framework in place, but leave room to adapt and ad-lib on the side. Today that did not happen. My wife informed be she had to use the laptop for her work, and I didn’t get the opportunity to hash everything out. At 0530, 17 PAX assembled and YHC decided to stick with his guns. Keep it simple, and bring the pain.

Warm-Up: All in Cadence

  • SSH x30
  • Arm Circles x10 forward, x10 backwards
  • WMH x10
  • Merkins x10
  • Lunges x10

The Thang:

We took a right out of the parking lot and made our way down Science Drive. We crossed Towerview Drive, and assembled at the bottom of the hill for a ladder evolution. 10 merkins at the bottom up the hill to Towerview and do 2 burpees. Run back to the bottom for 8 merkins and then back to the top for 4 burpees. This continued until we did 2 merkins and 10 burpees. YHC lead the PAX in some plank work while we waited on the 6. Kudos to Coxswain for picking up the 6.

YHC then lead the PAX to the right down Towerview, another right on Circuit Drive, and finally arriving at the Chemistry Parking Lot. We lined up across the parking lot, and YHC instructed the PAX to travelling burpee the length of the parking lot.

Absolutely love that feeling when your legs won’t cooperate with you, so we naturally followed up travelling burpees with a google of jump squats. The Chemistry Parking Lot is layed out with 5 rows of parking spaces. We did 10 jump squats at one end, run across and do 10 jump squats at the other end. Repeat for all 5 rows for a century of jump squats in a short period of time.

Somehow we jogged back to the rally point for Mary.

Mary:

  • Hello Dolly x20
  • Box Cutters x20

COT:

  • Tater has spearheaded a Durham shirt order. I have been told that my five shirts is enough, but if there is a singlet option, I’m pulling the trigger.
  • Run the ATT this Sunday.  Check out the #running channel for more information.

Moleskin:

  • There was a question/comment about form during the workout today. I think it’s worth noting that we as PAX should be thinking about form over speed. In a workout like today, YHC did not count for our reps, so it is up to every individual to focus on their own form. I’ll be the first to admit that form goes to hell the more tired I get, or when I find myself trying to run down guys like Weenie Roast. In contrast, if the reps are being counted by the Q, it is the Q’s responsibility to make sure the count is slow enough that proper form can be completed. This last note has been on my mind recently as I fear that sometimes our counting gets ahead of what our bodies of capable of doing.
