YHC was the first mystery Q for The Thicket’s Mystery Q Month.
28 PAX met in the forbidden lands near Woods Charter School now occupied by a growing nation of genetically evolved apes.
During the warm-up, two apes dressed in black robes wielding swords ran out of the woods and screamed: No Trust Human! Humans Leave Now! (Along with other rants improvised by Chum and Skynyrd.) YHC yelled back that the humans mean no harm and simply desired exercise.
They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived as the Pax are quickly captured by the apes and put through a series of unnecessary hard-labor exercises.
The punishment determined who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.
The Warmup:

The Thang:
Part 1:
Tire drag / Burpees / Gorilla Jump
An ape themed workout needed to be kicked off with some radial tires. The PAX split into 6 lines for a follow the leader exercise. The leader dragged a tire while crawl-bearing. Behind the leader, the other PAX would gorilla jump, then drop for 10 burpees, then lunge walk until the leader requested a switch. Repeat as a team.
Continue around the circle of the parking lot. PAX pointed out there was a short-loop and long-loop. YHC determined the apes would not be happy if we cut the exercise short – long loop it is!
Time to head to the field.
Part 2:
Apes catch escaping Humans – Crab-walk chased by Gorilla-walk
Choose a partner. Line up on one end of the soccer field.
Partner #1 crab-walks down the field as far as possible. Partner #2 does 10 burpees and then gorilla-walks to catch partner #1.
Switch and repeat.
Part 3:
Forbidden Lands – Burpees if caught in the lands controlled by the apes
Split into groups of three PAX. Partner #1 is on the right side of the field performing squats, Partner #2 is on the left side of the field performing merkins. Partner #3 will run the width of the field from Partner #1 to Partner #2. Switch and Partner #2 is now the runner.
When on the right side of the field perform OYO continuous squats. When on the left side of the field perform OYO continuous merkins.
Randomly a gong will sound (every 10 – 45 seconds), anyone in the field (the forbidden lands) must drop for OYO five burpees before continuing across the field.
Repeat for 20 rounds.
Part 4:
Humans captured – planking chain-gang jumps
Split into two lines laying down in plank position. Pax at the end of the line jump over Pax in the line.
Continue for the length of the field.
