Mo’ Tussin

October 23, 2018

WHEN: 10/23/2018
QIC: Horny Toad
PAX: Cricket, Rambler, RG3, Gomer, Mothman

Apropos of nothing, the title of this backblast occurred to me while I was giving my son some Robitussin this morning.  You’re welcome.

Introduction:

With the drop in temperature finally here, I was excited to take to the trails in BC and enjoy the brisk Fall morning.  Several PAX showed up who normally do not, and I quickly learned that the use of the phrase “fellowship pace” was key.  Duly noted!

Warmup:

SSH IC x 30

Imperial Walkers IC x 20

Hamstring stretch

Calf stretch

Main Event:

Run to the Veranda via the BC trails along BC Pkwy.  Mothman gave the best 10-count of all time.  Get lost in the woods near the BMX bike trails.  Have some fun running on the ramps and hills.  Finally catch the trail towards the bottom and cross the bridge to the Veranda.

Merkin Escalator

10 merkins, sprint up the hill and circle the parking lot, run back to start

15 merkins, sprint up the hill and circle the parking lot (a little bigger circle), run back to start

20 merkins, sprint up the hill and circle the parking lot (even bigger circle), run back to start

Run back to the BC clubhouse, this time without getting lost.  Progress…

COT

On a recent Jocko Willink’s podcast, he was talking about a new theory he was working on, which goes something like this:  In a game, you have a maximum number of points or goals you can score.  In soccer, for instance, the most goals you could score is somewhere around 3 a game.  If you have 10 games, that’s a max of 30 points.  No matter how well you play, or what strategy you use, you are capped at 30 points.  However, if you add a second team to your schedule, now you double your chances of scoring, and your max goes up to 60 points.  Add a third, and you’re up to 90.  You get the idea…

Too often in life, we limit ourselves to a single game, and end up trying different ways to score the same amount of points.  At a certain point, you are capped at out what you can get out of your one game.  Instead, try picking up a second or third game (more family time, 2nd job, church, hobby, etc).  You will be amazed at the results.
