YHC has a particular love and respect for Rameses…Arguable the best and most diverse AO – hills, pull ups, rails, hills, walls, easy parking, picnic benches, sand, tennis courts, proximity to campus, Lone Pine, Rucking…and IIRC, was the first AO in Chapel Hill…was psyched that a Q Spot was open!
With the latest societal unrest due to the most recent manifestation of the institutional/societal/systemic inequities based on race and economic injustice and inequality of rights, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…YHC has been overwhelmed like I’m sure others have…
YHC has been challenged to process these events and turn the resulting insights into action in all areas, outside the “normal” sphere of influence. YHC has been encouraged with the unprecedented breadth and depth of the resulting discussions in hopes of the fulfillment of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s prophetic and hopeful comments, “Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
YHC wanted to subtly integrate these discussions in to the workout…

WMH IC X 10
Hands up run up the entrance road to to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints parking lot.
Mountain climbers IC X 25
Hand release merkins IC X 25
Johnny Dramas IC X 25
Hands up run back to the Outdoor Education Parking Lot (5 penalty burpees for all PAX for anyone dropping hands down below your shoulders…Hat tip to Champ for giving an opportunity to demonstrate accountability). This was a nod to the higher incidents of police arresting persons of color…It was tough to hold those arms up high…offers a little perspective.
The Thang
We physically distanced along the half wall path to the tennis courts and assumed the position. We started with the following:
Dips IC X 10
Derkins IC X 10
Under arm inverted rows IC X 10
We then started a wave of the aforementioned exercises starting at the outside with MLP being the middle. The outside PAX would drop down in a dip/derkin/row up and hold until the person to next to them was ready to return to neutral. The underlying point of this exercise was to show an example of privilege. Those PAX that were closer to the middle had an easier time – as they had to hold the position of stress a shorter time period. We got through the following
Dips IC X 10
Derkins IC X 10
Under arm inverted rows IC X 10
We then did a set of the reverse wave, starting in the middle. The privilege was experienced by the PAX on the outside for this round.
We then counted off into two groups, ones and twos. The ones went to the top top tree line of Tar Heel Warrior Mountain and the twos went to the bottom of Tar Heel Warrior Mountain. The two groups would bear crawl towards each other to “meet in the middle,” (obvious symbolism that we as a human race need to meet each other in the middle to be seen, heard and acknowledged). The Pax who finished first started Flutter Kick’s until the Six finished up. YHC asked the PAX which group had an easier time…Some mumble chatter ensued and we switched sides and had the opportunity to walk in each other’s shoes…group two bear crawled from the top of THWM and group two crawled from the bottom to once again meet in the middle. MLP challenged the twos to make it further than the ones did…and YHC slingshoted by him with the inspiration he provided to get across the line. Barksdale called uphill LBC’s while the Six finished strong.
The Pax all headed to the bottom of Tar Heel Warrior Mountain for a run to the top top treeline…the catch here was, the Pax could only run as fast as the slowest Pax (YHC)…The goal here was to give perspective of what it was like to artificially restrain yourself, which is generally not part of the F3 Churham Culture…We moseyed back to the bottom of Tar Heel Warrior Mountain for an AYG (All Ya Got) sprint to the top top, then pick up the six for….

Heels to heaven IC x 25
Plank, ankle touches IC x 20 (H/T to Champ)
Russian hammer IC x 25 (H/T to Big Kat)
YHC lead the COT with a summary of the thought and symbolism behind each of the exercises and talked of our collective and individual privileges. We must nudge each other on accountability for action to be better human beings…Reach out to those in need…particularly those who have been victims of the systemic inequities. Inclusion is better than diversity…Diversity is having people of different backgrounds present…inclusion is fully including all of those people. Aye!
