10 more joined the party for the ME.

YHC was looking for inspiration for this morning and went searching for the historical significance of October 24th.  Turns out it’s a been a hell of day through the years: date of Houdini’s last show, date that Al Capone was sentenced to 11 years in jail for tax evasion, date the George Washington Bridge was dedicated…but the thing that really jumped out to YHC was that both the U.S. Stock Market crash of 1929 (Black Thursday) and the double digit decline across the world markets in 2008 (Bloody Friday) occurred on 10/24.  Hell of a coincidence.  Too much to pass up.

So, with that in mind, we set out on a workout that focused on the Up’s and Down’s, just like the market.

Warm-up

SSH x 20 (IC)

WMH x 10 (IC)

IW x 20 (IC)

LBAC x 10 (IC)

RLBAC x 10 (IC)

Slow Merkin x 10 (IC)

Mosey down to the tennis courts and partner up.  Partners take off in opposite directions in a sprint around all 6 courts.  When you and your partner meet up drop down for one partner merkin.  Back up, sprint again in opposite direction until you and your partner meet up, drop down for two partner merkins.  Repeato until you reach 10 partner merkins. People’s Chair against the fence until all PAX finished.

Next we traveled down the stairs to pull-up bars.  Line-up with your partner, all PAX in plank position.  First pair jump up and perform 5 pull-ups on the bar, calling out each “up”.  All other planking PAX go down with a merkin on each “up” call.  Once completed, pull-up team returns to line and resumes plank and next pair goes to do their 5 pull-ups with rest of PAX holding plank and performing a merkin on each “up”.  All the way down the line.

Recover with 20 IC squats.  Then, Repeato on the team pull-ups/plank/merkins conga line.

Back up the stairs and over to THWM where the market crashed all the way to the bottom.  Everyone knows that after such a big drop, it takes the market some time to crawl back up.  So, that’s what we did, Bear Crawl all the way to the top of the parking lot, making “nickel” investments along the way.  5 tuck jumps at bottom, 5 merkins at first gate, 5 squats at second gate, 5 burpees at top.  When complete, pick up the six and finish together with 5 more burpees.

Unfortunately, we didn’t quite invest enough to sustain the market gains.  So, it dipped back down to the bottom.  Return to bottom of THWM with the plan to invest a little more on the way back up.  Backwards Run all the way to the top, with “dime” investments at each stop.  10 tuck jumps at bottom, 10 merkins, 10 squats, 10 burpees.  Pick up the six and finish together with 10 more burpees.

Market was stabilized, so we moved on to Mary:

Great crew today with a mix of old and new faces.  Really appreciate all making the effort to get to the site and special thanks to Sidecar for bringing out our FNG Relegation this morning!  Real name Simon – works for UNC Health.  Originally from England.  Cyclist.  We started with the cycling angle, had Cavendish and Armstrong, then EPO (but we already got an EPO).  Turned to soccer and Boucher asked about Premier League.  Simon shared that his university was once had a proud football tradition, but those days have sadly passed.  So, we zero’d in on Relegation
