Like Lightning in a Bottle When the Saints Go Marching

November 2, 2017

WHEN: 11/01/2017
QIC: Soybean and Justice
PAX: Juco, Two Face, Troller, Assisi, Fife, Shake It, Tugboat, Maestro (FNG), Llama (FNG), Smog, Slider, Drifter, Denial, SalPal, Smeagol (FNG), Avalanche, Juco, Soybean, Justice, +1 I missed..
There comes a time in every man’s F3 life when he accepts the invitation (aka succumbs to the pressure) to step up to the Q. Thanks to a 10/17 Doogie prompt, that time came today for YHC and Justice.
Inspired by a recent post at the “White Lightning” AO (Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, NC), Soybean puzzled the PAX with a theme of “Lightning in a Bottle.” 3 FNG were likely very confused and concerned.
Copying the cats in Concord, we started out with:
  • SSH x 11 in cadence (welcome to 11th month November)
  • Carolina Dry Docks x 11 – single count
  • Imperial Walkers x 11 – in cadence

Q queried the crew “What almost always accompanies lightning?” Answer by those awake: “Thunder”

  • Thunderstruck Planks / Merkens (11 x 3 = 33 in 4:52)
Count off finds 20 PAX. Evens grab steel. Odds run the “speedway” (islands of CGS parking lot). Rendezvous back at light.
@TheRock at White Lightning said they love them some “do 200 of something together” workouts. So that’s the plan – partner up odds and evens with a combined goal of:
  • 200 Squat Thrusters (throw the steel in the air like you just don’t care)
  • 200 Weighted Little *Baby* Crunches (aka LBCs) with Steel as Bottle
  • 200 Burpees (burp that baby, boys – bonus to the brazen who grab steel on the jump)

Odds start the work while Evens take a lap on the Track, switcheroo and pick up where partner left off.

Done when all 600 complete or lightning strikes the clock at 5:55a.

2 duos made it to baby burping – t claps to the men who were well on their way to accomplishing the impossible

Soybean pitches Q ball to Justice, who makes men mosey to the corner pocket of the parking lot.

Justice began by encouraging everyone to be competitive in outdoing one another with the “lusty” singing* of When the Saints Go Marching In while doing the following exercises:
  • Set 1: Traveling burpees while partner lunge walks with steel, then switch (bottom of lot up to entrance).
  • Set 2: Find a new partner. Wheel barrow up to front entrance while pax with steel Bunny Hop. Pass steel and continue exercise to end of building.
  • Set 3: Non-steel-holding men crab walk while steel wielders lunge walk until pain prevails, need to switch.
Mosey to flood lights at bottom of the parking lot near flood lights on wall.
  • BTTW for four verses of When the Saints while partner holds steel overhead, then switch.
Just when we thought purgatory was over and we’d marched into sainthood, Mary preyed on us:
  • Mountain Climber, cadence count to 5. Merkins single count to 5.
  • Mountain Climber, cadence count to 10; Merkins, single count to 10.
  • Mountain Climber, cadence count to 15; Merkins, single count to 15.
Moleskin:
It’s safe to say that most PAX learned several new verses to When the Saints, including “when the moon turns red with blood” and “when the drums begin to bang.” Notably absent was “when the leaders begin to cry,” which would have been appropriate for YHC as steel was placed to rest in glory, awaiting another band of marching saints on some not-too-distant morning.
