In Our Element(s)

Twice in the last several months that 0500 Monday alarm has wakened YHC to a downpour and, with my name on the Q-sheet, fart-sacking was not an option. But upon arrival there is always someone like Slug or Uzi to shrug and say something like, “What the hell.”

“There’s just something about the elements that make it fun,” Uzi said as five of us circled up in a steady rain at 0545 Monday outside the north gate at Kenan Stadium.

Indeed, so we made the best of it and did escape into the Bell Tower parking deck for some respite from the elements. The theme was a celebration of UNC’s 225th birthday this fall—ergo, 225 reps of various exercises.

The Thang:

Warmup: SSH x 25, Windmills x 10, Squats x 10, Arm Circles x 10 front and back.

Mosey to the stone wall in front of Kenan Football Center for 25 cadence count dips.

Mosey to the parking deck for eight sets of exercises, 25 cadence counts of merkins, wide-grip merkins, diamond merkins, single-leg lunges, slows squats, Carolina dry docks and jump lunges, followed by 25 burpees—an even 225 counts.

Each exercise was performed on escalating levels of the parking deck, allowing for a sprint/run/jog/your choice from one level to the next.

We tied a bow around the festivities with 15x LBC, Heels to heavens, long-slow flutters and Russian twists, then slogged back to the stadium for COT.

As always, a good but soggy time was had by all.
