I thought about the Army

February 27, 2018

WHEN: 02/27/2018
QIC: RG3
PAX: Bright Idea, Nescafe, Chum, Gomer, Doobie

My dad was in the Army. He served in Vietnam and we spent several years in Berlin, Ft Sill, and a few other Army bases after that. I was very young and eventually he got out so we could all put some roots down vs. moving every few years.  I thought about joining when I was in middle-school but ultimately decided against it. Nonetheless, I truly admire the military, what it represents, and honestly love the ties back that F3, Go Ruck, and other CSAUP events have with the military (lexicon, structure, etc).

5 other PAX “thought about the Army” today as YHC turned Briar Chapel’s premier trail running AO into a test facility for administering the Army Physical Fitness Test.  Full disclosure, YHC is in Pathfinder Class 15 and picked the APFT as one of the four challenges to complete. So while it was definitely selfishly motivated, it’s always good to get a baseline and assess where you are so you can track progress.  But as it turns out, Doobie showed up expecting a trail run. Sorry brother!

Warmup
  • Imperial Walkers (IC x 8)
  • Arm Circles (IC x 10, Front and Reverse)
  • Frankenstein Kicks (IC x 10)
  • Calf stretches (aka the “Boyardee”)
Thang

Partnered up for

  • 2 minutes AYG Push-ups (per spec)
  • 10 minute rest
  • 2 minutes AYG Old-School Situps (per spec)
  • 10 minute rest
  • 2 mile run AYG (per spec)

Results you ask? I think everyone passed except for 1 PAX whose sit-up score was a little too low for Army Standards.  At least he knows where to focus his energy for the next go round.

Every once in awhile it’s good to step back and assess where you’re at physically, emotionally, and/or professionally.  It’s good to ‘test yourself’ and see how well you’re doing, whether there’s progress made or work to do.  In our case today, it was to see how if F3 workouts have been impacting the all important first F.  I can honestly say that I don’t believe I would’ve passed this test a year ago…or even 8 months ago.  It’s a testament to the most tangible benefits we all get out of F3. I’d encourage everyone to get their baseline score and work to improve it. Until next time. Aye.
