2 Is Better Than 1…

February 27, 2018

WHEN: 02/27/2018
QIC: Griswold
PAX: Germ, Rebar, Gasmask, Griswold

The 4 PAX that came to the Jag were lucky enough to have the opportunity to once again embrace the cold with a morning well below 40 degrees. YHC wanted to put together a challenging and different workout, so much time was spent on the F3 site digging up workouts YHC had never tried before. Unfortunately the ice on YHCs shoulder while writing this Q did not translate to significantly fewer merkins, to quote Germ’s most eloquent prose regarding the amount of merkins we did “…a sh*t ton of merkins”. Well said Germ!

Warmup

SSH IC x 21

Cross Jack IC x 10

Arm Circle Forward x 10

Arm Circle Reverse x 10

Willie Mays Hayes IC x 10

The Thang

-The first awful exercise were ATMs (15 IC Shoulder Taps/10 Tempo Merkins/10 Single Count Merkins). This was preformed twice, because 2 is better than 1.

-Next were Bolt 45s. Like a Colt 45, but for squats. These were also preformed twice, see reason above.

-A mosey was taken to the playground where 2 pull-up stations resided. The PAX alternated with 2 on the pull-up stations and 2 in plank. The PAX on pullups preformed AMRAP Poseys (Pullup/Leg Raise to parallel/down). The the PAX rotated to give everyone a turn. This was done twice. See above regarding 2>1.

-The PAX did a mosey back to the lot and were introduced to teh Worst Merkin Ever. It certainly did live up to it’s name. 1 rep = 1-Wide Arm Merkin/1-Standard Merkin/1-Diamond Merkin. A set of 5 was preformed. Then another. Again I refer you to 2 and its overall superiority to 1.

-At this point Germ requested some leg work, and YHC had just the thing. The Lt. Danger. Think Lt. Dan, but after the squats, ascending merkins are done. Net result is “I ain’t got no legs” as well as “where are my arms”. This was done ascending to 10. In this case the 2>1 does not really apply, but 10 is pretty great too!

-Before Mary we had time for one more quick routine, and merkins seemed like a great place to go. A Wave of Merkins was preformed to the 5. All PAX hold plank while 1 PAX does a single Merkin. Then, in a wave like fashion the merkins flow around the circle. The number ascends with each completed circle. 5 were done, and 5 may not be better than 10, but it sure beats 1 and 2!

Mary:

  1. Captain Thor (1 Situp/4 American Hammers=1) x 10 (I think, too much counting)
  2. Outlaw – 10 to the left, 10 to the right
  3. LBC IC x 25 (Rebar)
  4. Typewriter Merkins – Single Count x 10 (Germ. He wanted more Merkins!)

BoM:

– Failure tends to be something we fear. The truth of it is, we will all fail, likely more times than we succeed. It is the failures that we will build our successes on. Every time we miss the mark is a chance to learn how to hit it. Thomas Edison said about failures in his endeavors, “I’ve not failed, I’ve just found 10,000 ways that do not work”. David Goggins had something more profound to say about failure. For those unfamiliar with David Goggins, he is a retired Navy Seal and one of the most inspiration people you will find. Regarding failure he said “Failure is an option. It’s what you do with the failure that makes you who you are. Our failures mold us. I have failed at several things in my life. What sets some of us apart, is that when we fail, we can’t sleep at nigh. It haunts us until we have our time at redemption.” The message here is if every time we fail we learn and grow, we are guaranteed success, if through our own personal growth if nothing else.
