I threw on the road unis this morning for a trip to burgeoning F3 metropolis, Briar Chapel.  This is Master Q 24, only 1.5 months after my last qualifying Master Q.  Why such a long break?  Because when I signed up to Q the BC AOs in July, they were booked until now!  What is happening in Briar Chapel is really impressive.  You have broad swath of fitness levels, ages, and exercise interests and they all combine to form a pretty badass Voltron of a sub-region.  Rucking, trail-running, 2.0s, boot camps, you got ’em all.  The comparison may not be apples to apples, but I like it, and that is what guided us today in our workout in honor of BC: we hit every body part, and in the end we became more than the sum of our parts!

Qualifying Master Q 25 is Monday at The Thicket.  I promised all PAX today they were not buying tickets to see the same bad movie twice.  That is right: they had bought tickets to see two different bad movies, each one with the same antagonist.

Warm up: SSH, smurf jacks (thanks to the call out from Eddie the Eagle), semi-circle mountain climbers, merkin jacks, imperial squat walkers, willie mays hayes.

I do not know many of the Briar Chapel PAX, aside from knowing they multiply like wet gremlins.  As such, I told them I did not trust them, and thus had to take a leg away from them.  So we limped into the following routine right at the heart of it all, The Wall.

  • 5 one-legged burpees
  • One-legged bear crawl to The Wall
  • 10 one-legged squats
  • One-legged bear crawl to other side
  • 10 one-legged squats
  • Turn around and repeato with the other leg

Then we finished our one-legged sequence with a broken partner wheelbarrow from sideline (one pax) to sideline (other pax).

We topped this off with some low squat holds and plank holds of various configurations.

To the hill north of The Wall: 

Blackjack!  Exercises always add to 21.  Start with 20 jump squats, backwards run up the hill, 1 merkin. 19:2; 18:3, etc. We bit off a bit too much on the distance so we kept shortening on the fly.  We made it through 10-12 minutes.

Time to give it all you got.  From the bottom of the same hill, Sprint up the hill.   Turn on those afterburners.  Great to see a lot of guys really getting after it here.  At the top of the hill, SSH until all arrive, then 25 in unison.

Mary: Proper bear crawl movements, forward/back, side-to-side, and proper bear crawl hold.  Slow flutter kicks, 6 inch holds, and more slow flutter kicks.

CoT: Welcome FNG Poison (he works in toxicology).  2.0 AO in Briar Chapel tomorrow (Stinky’s Playhouse?), as well as Basecamp, the new Ruck AO.  BBQ in Briar Chapel this weekend.  Be there or be hungry.
