How do you design a workout to hit every muscle in the body, methodically and intentionally? If you hit the biceps, you gotta do triceps. Hit the back, work the front – chest and shoulders, abs and lower back, quads and hams, calves, forearms – everything. That was the working concept YHC had on the brain over the past few weeks and couldn’t wait to test it with the PAX of Bullpen. This past Thursday morning at 4 PAX arrived at 0500 to run a 5K (T Claps to Dial Up for leading us) and 12 PAX joined the main event.

THE THANG

Count off. Odds grab a cinder block, evens grab 2 bricks. PAX had a chance to choose their own adventure. The majority picked a Bull over a Weight Lifter, so the destination was “Larry” (aka Major) in downtown Durham. Partner up and run, switching the cinder for bricks every block.

Stop at parking lot across from Rise Biscuits. Form a circle, alternating blocks and bricks. The goal: complete an exercise, rotate clockwise (like a hurricane?). Run to Major, do more exercises there. Run back to the parking lot to wrap it up. Below are the exercises we completed:

Humorous moment of the morning: as several PAX were running the streets with blocks and bricks in front of the police station, several officers were outside. One yelled, “Oh no! They’re stealing a building.” Indeed: steeling a body, stealing buildings.

MARY

  • Just time to put the bricks and blocks away

ANNOUNCEMENTS / PRAYER

  • Keep in mind all those affected by Hurricane Florence, seeing where we can pitch in, as needed.
  • Toolbox asked for patience with his family as they’re cooped up for a few days – motion was seconded and carried “ayes” from all PAX.
