One thing I have learned through Qing here and there is that sometimes the simplest design is the most brutal. For instance, take the Jack Webb (a merkin/air press ratio combo), by all accounts a challenging exercise. It is also by all accounts a simple one, and one that no one really likes. The ratio is what matters, because a lot of any exercise is hard. It is the combination of certain exercises that rips your heart out. And another thing I have learned is that you cannot, should not, and if you care about humanity, you will not use big ratios. Keep it simple, and keep it small, and those ratios will still rule them all.
This in mind, we completed a Sweaty Webb at The Big House today, my own variation of the Jack Webb. 21 showed up to feel a chill in the air and got right down to business after a nice little standard warm up.
Sweaty Webb:
- 1:3: Sprints/Burpees to 5/15 (staying the TBH parking lot to sprint light to light) – almost forgot it was a little chilly outside. Great push from Grunge and others here!
- 1:4: Squats/Lunges to 10/40 – quads were feeling it here big time. After the first few, you’re like, “Oh, I got this.” Then you get to 5/20 and you’re like, “Wow, oh, OK, WOW!”
- 1:2: Merkins of your choice (hand clap for a challenge)/ WWIIs – the burn was real on the merkins.
Mary: Breathing, yoga, and stretching to get ready for the day. Needed a nice cool down after today’s workout!
CoT: Thoughts and prayers to all competing in GoRuck Toughs and Heavies coming up. Shout out to the DC Heavy Crew (Sweats, Coco, Blindside, Cheesesplint, Teo, Adolphus, Marta, Riggs, Peppermint Pattie) launching tomorrow (Thursday) at 0600. Let’s do this, fellas. We’ve worked hard for it, now let’s have some fun.
Moleskine: Props to Rambler for completing the workout with a ruck on. Beast mode, indeed! 27th Master Q for me and final one in Briar Chapel. Have had a blast, and grateful for the opportunity! I have really enjoyed getting to know the Briar Chapel PAX, and each of the AOs there. A special thank you to all of the Site Qs who helped brief me before the Q, and to all the PAX for showing up and showing out each time. I can’t wait to get back down there for your next new innovative AO.
