YHC decided it was time to put nerves aside and host his VQ. YHC grew up playing basketball (shocker i know. Someone who loves fire and played sports, rare combination) and decided that a basketball themed VQ would be the best and most comfortable. When would be a better time than the morning of the 2021 NCAA National Championship game between Baylor and Gonzaga? For anyone who has played basketball, they all know one thing that happens in practice. You run! YHC thought back to his high school “glory days” (when i could run for hours at a time up and down the court and had no other worries or responsibilities) and pulled a couple of drills from old practices plus added some weight work to break it up.
The Warmup:
SSH x 25 IC
WMH x 10 IC
Good Morning x 10 IC
Imperial Walker x 10 IC
Baby Arm Circles x 10 IC
Reverse x 10 IC
Slow Merkins x 10 IC
The Thang:
The group was asked to bring a weight for the workout. Cinderblocks were preferred but any type of weight could work. We grabbed weights and walked to the lower parking lot. Unfortunately there was no basketball court on the site otherwise we would have used that so YHC came out early to mark off dimensions of a basketball court as far as free-throw lines and half court. 94 feet is the most that would be running in one direction (sorry distance runners).
Basketball ladders (down and back) was the first exercise followed by a 12 rep exercise with the weights. 12 was decided as the number of reps due to YHC’s 2.0 Belle receiving a progress report from her preschool asking if she could count to 10. Teacher wrote “0-10 but 12 is as high as i will go”. Made YHC laugh so 12 was as high as we would go as well.
1 ladders and 12 Shoulder Press
2 ladders and 12 Curls
3 ladders and 12 irkins on block (merkins if no block)
4 ladders and 12 Weighted Squats
5 ladders and 12 Side to Side Merkins on block (just side to side merkins if no block)
6 ladders and 12 Lawn Mowers (each arm)
repeat 5-1 back down.
YHC then talked quickly about the worst possible thing to come up in practice and that was to have a timer put on the scoreboard for suicides. You can’t have a basketball themed workout without suicides. 5 minutes was put on the clock.
Pax ran 5 EMOM suicides.
MARY:
Ring of fire 20 IC exercise selected by each PAX.
COT:
Prayers for Blanch and family mourning his sister.
Prayers for Frozen Peas dad recovering from heart surgery.
Prayers for Tatertot’s wrist healing.
Larry Legend took us out.
Thank you all for coming out for the VQ. This was definitely something out of my comfort zone but i appreciate everyone coming out. Means a lot.
