Today is May the Fourth, Star Wars day.
PAX had some fun with the many Star Wars parodies out there, both on Slack and during today’s themed workout. (Today’s headline is a reference to one of said parodies.)
The workout itself was intended to pay tribute to the 9-part movie saga and to that imposing behemoth, The Death Star.
Brief warm-up that included Imperial Walkers and Ewok Jacks (like smurf jacks, but named for Ewoks.)

Mosey to blocks
Death star – I failed to mention the Death Star theme at the outset as I was inquiring about WreckIt, who ghosted us like Obi-Wan. Turned out he dinged a calf during burpees and needed to bow out. Get well soon bro.
The Death Star theme was a stretch. We were in a circle, and the Death Star is circular. OK, spherical. Shut up.
Anywho – ring of fire style we did the following
- Blocks were held overhead while each PAX did 5 blockees
- Block held at chest level while in low squat – each PAX does 5 squat thrusts
- Bent over row position with block held in up position to chest – each PAX does 10 rows
- Block held in upcurl position – each PAX does 10 curls
These sequences were definitely you vs. you, seeing how long you could keep that block up without a break. Some isometric stuff is never a bad idea, plus good mind-over-matter mental training.
Blocks back and moseyed back to the start for

Star world war IIs – WWII rolling to a stand then jump reaching for the stars – The contrast between my demonstration and OPEC’s was striking. Most required the use of a hand to get all the way to standing, but OPEC, Weed and maybe a few others did not. T-claps.
Then we all planked for about a minute while I regaled the PAX, at Knope’s request, of my favorite Star Wars scene. It’s the part in Return of the Jedi when Chewie and those two Ewoks hijack the AT-ST and flip the script on the Empire. Save the day, basically.
Then 5 merkin ROF and FIN

Great crew today and hopefully everyone had a good time and got their money’s worth. Been shying away from themed workouts lately on the grounds that they get in the way of beating the hell out of people, which I assume is what most want. Hopefully today was a good mix. May the Fourth be with you.
