An Eggscellent Morning Tour

April 15, 2017

WHEN: 04/15/2017
QIC: F3Churham
PAX: Dean Wormer, Rebar, Moore, Zika, DOI, Gump, Ocho, Niles (visiting from Cape Fear), Wolf (visiting from Dallas), Blackball and Major Payne

Apparently the there was some sort of Bunny in town overnight, and it left the PAX little surprises across the UNC-Chapel Hill campus on this Saturday morning to help brighten the gloom.

Warm up: Lap around Fetzer Field, pick up straggler Blackball and circle up for 25 x SSH.

The Thang: Mosey to Forest Theatre, where outdoor drama was first performed in 1916 to celebrate the tercentenary (yeah, big word there…it”s the three-hundred year anniversary – I had to look it up) of Shakespeare”s death. PAX had one minute (or else 10 x penalty burpees) to find four hidden eggs, and it was no drama, no problem for this crew. In the eggs, were suggestions for various exercises to be completed before moving on. This time it was 10 x burpees, 30 x LBCs, 20 x Dips and (25-ish) Box jumps to top of the theatre. Once we all made it, high fives around the horn and we moseyed to on to…

Davie Poplar, named in honor of Revolutionary War general and founder of the University William Richardson Davie. While there, the PAX had half the time from before – 30 seconds – to find the eggs, which still proved to be too easy for them. The eggs offered us the opportunity to knock out: 30 x Body Weight Squats, 20 x Merkins, 40 x Plank Shoulder Taps and 40 x Mountain Climbers. Then, we moseyed on through campus, stopping temporarily to admire the spot on campus where the Bell Tower “dunce cap” was perfectly framed over Wilson Library (interesting story about that here). After a brief pause, we continued on to…

The Bell Tower, dedicated on Thanksgiving Day, 1931. No time for feasting today though, because there were plastic eggs to find! This time, YHC gave the PAX just 20 seconds, and while it was close, they found all the eggs again. Moore commented that these eggs seemed to only bring pain, which was very astute! Pain is weakness leaving the body, and that”s what we were there to do! We pushed through 10 x Burpees, 30 x Flutter Kicks, 30 x Jump Squats, and a Lunge Walk around the tower. After some good leg burn following the jump squat/lunge walk combo (and a bit of mumble chatter), we continued on to…

The front of the Kenan Football Center. Since we always want to improve, the PAX accepted the challenge of finding all eggs in just 15 seconds, and they succeeded once again! The prescription this time was: 30 x Dips, 20 x Derkins, 20 x WWIIs and 25 x American Hammers. Good times were had by all, and we then moseyed past Kenan Stadium, through the Chase Dining Hall tunnel, through Ehringhaus Field and stopped at…

Boshamer Stadium parking lot, where the egg search challenge was lowered to 10 seconds. This time, it proved to be too short of a time span to avoid the penalty burpees, perhaps because of the focus on some KBs and dumb bells in the grass. Ouch! We knocked out our burpees and then moved on to the assigned pain. Split into two groups. One group crushed 10 x Goblet Squats while the other completed 20 x SSH, then rotate. Next, group one exploded through 10 x Ground-to-Overheads while group two hammered out 20 x Merkins. Rotate again. With all exercises complete, we moved with the heavy metal up the hill and to…

Fetzer Field, where the PAX were given just 5 seconds to find the eggs. YHC has never seen men move so quickly, and they were victorious in finding all four in 4.99 seconds. Amazing work! We then completed 10 x Inchworms, 20 x (you pick it) – our guest Niles introduced Pickle Pounders (a Cape Fear favorite that was excellently performed in unison before the unsuspecting Fetzer track walkers – nice show!), then a 400 m. sprint/run/shuffle, 5 x Stadium Stairs and finish!!

COT: Thanks for everyone coming out on this morning during the Easter and Passover weekend to build community and make us all stronger! Great welcoming Wolf from Dallas and Niles from Cape Fear. Wolf (Travis Melvin) let us know that he is raising funds to compete in the 2017 Wall Street Decathlon this upcoming June. He is training for the individual event and is raising funds to assist with the fight against pediatric cancer. If you are compelled, you can donate here. It truly was an honor to lead this group of PAX around campus!
