An Alarming Amount of Running

July 5, 2018

WHEN: 07/05/2018
QIC: SalPal
PAX: Alamo, Jimmy Neutron, Maestro, Soybean, Pebbles, Beano

YHC got word from site Q Soybean that there were Q spots open at Bullpen in July, starting with the week of July 4th. A personal favorite of YHC because of the short commute, I decided to take on the challenge of Qing after the 4th of July. There would be no better way to work off the burgers and beers than a few exercises in downtown Durham. It almost certainly helped that YHC made no effort to see fireworks the night before. Side note: apparently, Durham police are out and about at 5:15 am, because one was on YHC’s tail on his way over to the AO.

Warmup:

  • 20 SSHs
  • 3 Burpees OYO
  • 15 LBACs and Reverse
  • 2 Burpees OYO
  • 10 WMH
  • 1 Burpee OYO
  • 10 Imperial Walkers

Phase 1: PAX and YHC took a short mosey to the central park footpath. First up, a short Bataan Death March around the footpath; last man would drop and do 5 merkins, then get up in front, Ricky Bobby style, and tapping the person in back to start the pushups. We continued until everyone had gone twice. Winding up at the bottom of the footpath, we did a quick bear crawl sprint to the top of the hill. Next up was another Bataan March, only this time, running was backwards (except if you were catching up, then you could run forward) and merkins were replaced with burpees. Finishing at the bottom of the hill, we did a bearcrawl inchworm back to the top.

Midway through, the fire alarm in a nearby building went off. I’d like to think the radiant heat of burning off 4th of July calories off our bodies was the cause. For now, that’s the best working theory.

Phase 2: Two quick sprints around the footpath. We had 2:30 to do them, and did bows and toes if you finished early. The first time, we finished way too early, so Beano suggested doing two laps instead of one around the footpath. It made for a much more balanced experience.

Phase 3: Run back to base camp at Recity, and we paid homage to the site Q Soybean with People’s Chair/derkins (I think they’ve officially been renamed perkins?). One partner does PC, holds the other’s legs as they do derkins.

  • Perkins x15 and switch
  • Perkins x10 and switch
  • Peoples Chair RoF (15 seconds each)
  • BTTW RoF (10 seconds each)

Mary:

  • 25 LBCs
  • 25 Flutters
  • 25 Hammers
  • 25 Flying V’s (10 and then 15)
  • 10 WWII’s

CoT: YHC forgot to do nameorama, thanks for the reminders fellas! This would have been so much harder to write! Beano reminded us about the Tough and Lite rucks, and prayers for YHC’s trip home and Beano’s friend suffering from liver disease.
