Despite not actually being Groundhog day, the genesis of this workout was several weeks ago when I promised Cardiac to take the next TR Q, which would have been 2/2/17. Already in planning mode the great ideas were pouring forth: double-deuce = double 11”s?, twenty-two reps of pretty much anything, 2.2-mile bear crawl…all excellent ideas. But then I thought, what would Floyd do? It turns out what came from that was exactly what Floyd would do since we both had Bill Murray”s disastrous encounter with Puxotany Phil in mind when planning our workouts. Yet, between promising Cardiac to Q at 0526 and checking the Q sheet at 0717, Floyd had somehow swooped in for the win. Good thing he did, as the Beaker family recently offended Montezuma and the revenge he has been exacting precluded me from being anywhere on 2/2. By 2/9 we”re feeling great, no FNGs, so it”s time to get down to business…no, not that business, the workout.
The Warm-up
5 PAX assembled and ready. Jog out to the ATT. According to Floyd, this was somewhat faster than a typical fellowship pace. Or, I think that”s what he said; I couldn”t really hear him because he was so far behind. #GrabTheSix #NoManLeftBehind.
Stop at the entrance to the ATT for some SSH. Jog down to Scott King Rd. Through the trees, we see headlights pulling into the AO, so it was time to cut warm-up short. #ChurhamTime #Omaha! The PAX helped out by some of the loudest cadence-counting I”ve ever heard on our Willie-Mays Hays. Forget fellowship pace, let”s go grab our tardy PAX…and serve up a ten penalty burpee reward. NOW that we”re all assembled, it”s time for…
The Thang I
Today”s theme was simple, a full workout (ME, Mary, and COT) for as many reps as time would allow. 1 man at a time on 5x Pull-ups, hold up on the fifth for 5x knee-ups, repeated three times. During rep 1, the other PAX are swinging the American Hammer, rep 2 was LBCs, and rep 3 was reverse crunch. When all three reps were completed we took a Cardi-lap around the peanut into a chill-cut plank for COT. These COTs were a chance to learn a little more about our brothers. Question 1: Who put you into an EH to get you out to F3 and how long did it take?
The Thang II
Pick up a rock for three rock exercises, 1 man at a time. Rep 1 was rock-your-body x 10, rep 2 was curls x 10, rep 3 was rock row x 10. Remaining PAX were in a six-inch hold with the rock (rep 1), WWIIs with the rock (rep 2) and flutter kicks (rep 3). Repeat the Cardi-lap to a squat hold for COT 2: How are your wife and kids, how long have you been married?
The Thang III
Jog over to The Balls for a plank/merkin progression in cadence. 5 merkins to right arm high to 10x Bobby Ventura to 5 merkins to left arm high to 10x Bobby Ventura to 5 merkins to right arm high to 10x right elbow to left knee to 5 merkins to left arm high to 10x left elbow to right knee to 5 merkins. Cardi-lap to a low-plank hold for COT 3: What is the biggest challenge you are facing right now?
The Thang IV
Jog back to The Balls for some pleio. 1 man at a time for 10x Star Jumps (rep 1), 10x Tuck Jumps (rep 2), and 10x Jump Lunges (rep 3). Remaining Pax were in Freddy Mercury (rep 1), Hello Dolly (rep 2), and Box Cutters (rep 3). That was time. So, COT 4 will be right here.
COT
The Bull (April 1st) and Mule are imminent…all though the stats show that the Bull will be 33% more challenging.
Request for patience with the transition to an independent F3-Churham (Churhexit???) as the leaders sort everything out and try to put the structure in place that will allow F3 to have a continued and lasting impact on the men in our area.
Prayers
Prayers for F3 leadership, for Cardiac”s job search.
Moleskin
Floyd”s favorite chewing gum = Spearmint Rhino? Maybe he meant for Spearmint Rhino as something else, but with the RUF minster to UNC present (Pebbles), I am taking the G-rated interpretation
I didn”t count during any of the Mary exercises, but I am pretty sure we pushed several hundred of each while waiting for 5 PAX to complete their reps (or so it seemed)
As an indicator of how close my Mary guess-timate is, Floyd was thrilled with the LBC call after the hammers (“I can do these all day”), but had to retract that statement well before the fifth PAX had finished his reps.
Seems like we have common struggles as men: COT 3 elicited struggles with work-life time management, focusing on spouse, and one complaint about the low-plank hold. It”s encouraging to know we”re all facing similar challenges and can lean heavily on each other. Except in the case of the hold, don”t lean on your fellow PAX during the hold…EVER.
I love Qing. Either the responsibility of not wasting other mens” time, or my own adrenaline rush from leading, makes me push a little harder. I”m pretty sore all over today, and that is a really good feeling. If I Qed five days a week, I might be a mini-Sweats. If Sweats Qed five days a week…no, try not to think of it, it”s too scary.
Is Sweatervest one word or two, hyphenated?
I”m out.
