YHC has been reading Nassim Taleb”s Antifragile, and YHC feels that a personification of Antifragility is F3. The responsiveness to community crisis, overcoming all of the mental and physical challenges, creating community through suffering together, all helps create something greater than robustness, in that F3 seems to prepare the PAX to get better and stronger when the world is falling apart. Early in Taleb”s screed, he quotes Ovid, “Difficulty is what wakes up the genius” (in Latin as the title of this backblast) and damn if there weren”t a bunch of woke geniuses at The Big Dance this morning!
After four hearty souls did the traditional TBD EC with a few hundred kettlebell swings, YHC took the PAX on a tour of the stately neighborhood of West Forest Hills Boulevard….We ran, did some butt kickers, high knees, karaoke, alternate, sprint for 200 yards…then found a quiet corner for…
The Warmup:
Hillbillies IC x 10 (continues to shutter at the image indelibly left in our minds of Doogie at a recent TR)
Windmill IC x 10
Merkin IC x 10
Mountain Climber IC x 20
We then moseyed to the Tennis Courts
The Thang:
We started at the far sideline of the tennis courts and we were going to perform different means for doing separators of each tennis court.
First Court – We performed YHC”s favorite (and just about everyone else”s least favorite), travelling Merkins to the far sideline of the first court and back. As the PAX completed this first separator they began squats and once the entire PAX completed this set, we did 10 cadence count squats.
Second Court – We performed standard travelling burpees to the far side of the second court. At the turn around point, we returned slightly varying to inch worm burpees, where we would walk out with our hands and perform a burpee and repeato. Once the PAX returned to the starting point we started lunges. Once the entire PAX completed this set, we did 10 cadence count lunges.
Third Court – We performed bear crawls to the far side of the third court, and then crawl bears back. Once the PAX completed this, we did calf raises. Once the entire PAX completed this set, we did 10 cadence count calf raises.
Fourth Court – We performed Hops (YHC allowed Frog Jumps or Bunny Hops) to the far end of the fourth court, and then returned via crab walk. Once the PAX completed this, we did alternating one legged super mans. Once the entire PAX completed this set, we did 10 cadence count alternating one legged super mans.
We then moseyed over to the picnic shelter, and Elf turned on the lights…after we recovered from the shock of seeing each others faces, we commenced on some dip, derkin, step up, erkin circuits.
