Twenty-one men descended on the Vortex this morning and proceeded to unleash their inner bears. After limbering up with some main event-appropriate exercises (a lap, SSHs, slow merkins, mountain climbers, calf stretches, and arm circles), we made our way to a corner of the field. The task was this: bear crawl twice around the perimeter (.53 miles), stopping at the corners and at the midpoints of two sides for eight burpees each time. With a four-burpee flourish at the end, this would bring successful travelers to 100 burpees.
It”s hard to say which was more glorious: those who completed the half-mile, 100-burpee circuit (Peach is the Beorn figure in the video clip attached) or those who gutted it out for 36 minutes of pain without reaching the finish line. As their reward for finishing early, some PAX earned the special privilege of doing kettle-bell swings (x20), a 100-yd sprint, merkins (x20), another sprint, and repeato. There were also beautiful photo finishes, as a few PAX dove across the line just before Mary. There were gritty performances on hands and knees, as PAX fought in their own trenches of bear-crawl hell. Great stuff.
MOLESKIN:
It”s amazing to get 21 PAX out even as the Tuesday options continue to multiply. Thanks to everyone for making mornings at the Vortex such important times in my week.
There were no verbalized prayer requests this morning, but it was nonetheless good to encourage one another to care for our loved ones and neighbors (broadly construed) as best as we can–and to give thanks for each minute.
