PoBuPu Stick

September 12, 2017

WHEN: 09/12/2017
QIC: Coco
PAX: Sussudio, Nescafe, Germ, Grunge, Dueling Banjos, Strange Brew, Gomer, Kosher, Rambler, John Boy, ET, Coco

Irma decided to drop a little precip on Briar Chapel this morning. It appears she thought that a little rain would dampen (literally) the spirits of the PAX at The Rabbit today, but she was sorely mistaken.
As YHC pulled into the BC Clubhouse parking lot I was pleased to see ET & Grunge testing headlamps and getting loose.  Just as I began to believe that it was going to be 3 amigos running in the rain we were soon joined by a steady stream of headlights.  And then there were 12.

Grunge’s work at The Rabbit (& throughout ALL of BC) has been pretty incredible.  I’ve especially appreciated the ‘Know Your Q’ series he has initiated at #TR.  The questions are simple, but yet make you think about what’s most (or least) important in your life right now.  Important things like spending time with your family or really stupid (but also really awesome) stuff like burpee pullups.

The Warm Up
Yes I know this is The Rabbit.  But we still gotta get warm.
SSH (X50 IC)
BWS (x15 IC)
Hand Release Merkins (x15 SC)*
*Note:  Grunge had found himself a spot on the sidewalk that was waaaay too dry.  He promptly repositioned himself into the biggest puddle he could find to complete his hand release merkins (10-15).  Aye!

The Thang
With merkins complete, YHC was again reminded that this was in fact a trail running AO.  The 12 PAX took off down Great Ridge Parkway and headed north.  Crossing Pokeberry Creek we began our ascent which would ultimately accumulate to 574 ft. over 4 miles.  With Dueling Banjos as my wingman he helped YHC navigate to the entrance of Kill Bill which we swiftly (yet cautiously) killed.   Who says running in the pitch black along rugged terrain, slippery rocks, jagged roots, low branches and through massive spider webs (and spiders!) is dangerous?  With only a few minor scrapes and bruises to show for our efforts, the PAX conquered Kill Bill and reemerged onto Great Ridge Parkway (GRP) and continued north.

At various rates of speed the PAX ascended to the top of GRP only to circle back to sweep the 6 to head back towards the AO.   Sussudio was tapped as an unsuspecting accomplice for what would happen next.

Upon crossing back from gravel to pavement  along the GRP, the ‘Portable Burpee Pullup Stick’ (aka PoBuPu Stick) was withdrawn from YHC’s otherwise empty ruck (45# was most definitely NOT in there on this drizzly morning run).

Instructions:  Rotate through one burpee pullup on the mobile bar (kinda like the Apple Genius Bar, but slightly different) and then fill time through a rotation of merkins/BWS/burpees (x5 each; OYO).   Sussudio, YHC, Dueling Banjos & Germ took turns firmly bracing the PoBuPu Stick overhead as the PAX rotated through their burpee pullups.  Everyone claimed their burpee pullup only to be facing the countdown of the clock.  We hustled back up to the AO chasing Germ, Grunge & Dueling Banjos up the hill.

It seemed  a shame to have carried the PoBuPu Stick so far…and only provide one burpee pullup each, so everyone had another upon final return to the AO.

Mary
American Hammers (x20 IC)
WWIIs (x10 OYO)
Ring of Fire (5 merkins by each PAX one at a time.  All others alternate between high/low plank).

COT
CarPEX’s Odyssey coming up on Oct. 7th.  Google Sheet for signups floating on the interwebs.
Churham’s #RucktheATT on Saturday, Oct. 14th.  0530 launch from the southern ATT trailhead in Apex.
Continued prayers for Houston, Florida, the Carribean and all others affected by Harvey & Irma.

Sincere thanks to ALL of BC for hosting YHC and the continuous cycle of Churham Qs pursuing the #MasterQ challenge.  This has (and continues to be) one of my personal favorite CSAUPs for the opportunity it has given each of us to become stronger alongside our fellow Churham PAX.
