December 2, 2023

WHEN: 11/29/2023
QIC: Knope

ME HEADCOUNT: 10

This month’s SLT meeting marked the start of the transition away from SLT1, and towards SLT2. The old guard welcomed the new, with a bevy of topics that will bridge the two. We welcomed Deep Dish, and Cortes to their first meeting.

We started as we often do, with the question, “Why are you here?” We’ve started each meeting with this question in an effort to recenter us and remind us as a leadership team why we (and you) do what you do. Madden attended the meeting as a member of the public, and (I’ll paraphrase), that he comes to F3 to improve his physical fitness, and to spend time with his Dad. His “why” is no different than the men that answered that question before, to improve himself and be with friends and family.

The business portion of the meeting covered:
– Gobbler Challenge Recap – Great work to Vice for leading the charge on this, running the previous year’s challenges up to Thanksgiving week, where once again, Churham showed our strength.
– Be on the lookout in January for two new monthly challenges (more details to follow). The Resolution Challenge, where you set your goal for the month, and work towards achievement. We’ll also be doing a Check Up & In Challenge, where we discuss and hold each other accountable for the health checks that many of us should be doing (e.g. colonoscopy, skin cancer screenings, mental health check ins).
– From a safety and health perspective, we want to remind you that as temperatures go down, the time we spend warming up should increase. None of us are getting younger, and spending this extra time at the start will pay dividends in preventing injury.
– The forecast this winter is for more snow and cold rain, please remember that it is up to each AOQ and QIC to make the call for their AO if severe weather threatens. Start that conversation the night before if you can.
– Cluster Qs are organizing for a couple clusters and I encourage each of you to think hyper locally and check out the Cluster Q information that came out last month. The Cluster Qs are a new step in the Leadership Development Process, the natural next step (although not required) after an AOQ. If you aren’t sure what I’m talking about, please let me, Maraschino, or any other member of the SLT know and we’ll fill you in.
– Holiday Fundraiser information will be coming out soon from Brotox. I won’t steal his thunder, but here is a sneak peak: this year’s holiday campaign will focus on more than just financial donations….
– If you haven’t already, please HC on the Epic Mega Doc for the F3 Churham Holiday Party! The location is 401 Main in Carrboro on Friday, December 15 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Ms are encouraged, 2.0s are not. Please come celebrate the end of another great year of Fitness, Fellowship & Faith.
– The 250 and 360 Challenge are wrapping up this month. If you started either of these challenges in January, and haven’t updated your info, check your Strava and fill it in! If you haven’t heard of these challenges, look in the Epic Mega Doc, on their respective tabs, and add your info. If you have questions about the challenges, let me or any member of the SLT know, and we’ll be happy to fill you in. As of now, it looks like we have 15 PAX that have knocked out, or are within striking distance of 250 workouts in 2023. For the 360 Challenge, we have approximately 6 PAX that have achieved or are within striking distance of 250 workouts, 50 2nd Fs, and 60 3rd Fs in 2023. Strong work all around gentlemen, and if you think you’ve accomplished either of these feats in 2023, jump in and add your info!
– In an effort to hit the ground running, SLT2 has a short survey for AOQs about your site. Be on the lookout for it within the week, and please reply ASAP. This information will help improve the region.

Fellas, this is likely the last SLT backblast that YHC will write. It has been an honor to work with the HIMs of SLT1, and I appreciate the opportunity that you’ve given me to lead. As I said early on, we had the right group of PAX to start the SLT. I’m now looking forward to following the next group of HIMs to help guide us in the growth of an amazing community.
