Where the Heck is the Moon?

December 9, 2019

It’s been a while since a workout at The Thicket has taken place down on the soccer field and YHC always enjoys working out down there—there’s just something about being on the grass that’s more enjoyable than the parking lot.  The night before, YHC faithfully designed the day’s workout and quickly jotted it down on a Weinke.  However, YHC didn’t spend much time memorizing the details of the plan because he knew the full moon was just a couple of days away and expected to be bathed in moonlight…moonlight that would allow him to easily read the Weinke while down on the soccer field and away from the parking lot lights.  Of course, YHC didn’t account for the unexpected cloud cover and was left scrambling to get his phone flash light on so he could read his Weinke.  We may have done some extra merkins before getting the light issue sorted out, but all’s well that ends well (plus, no one has ever died from a few extra merkins).

Warm-Up

  • SSH x20 IC
  • Mountain Climbers x20 IC
  • Arm Circles x10 IC, F & R
  • Slow Merkins x10 IC
  • Slow Squats x10 IC

The Thang

Thang 1: Four corners around the soccer field with the folllowing exercises at each corner: 5 Burpees OYO, 10 Peter Parkers IC, 15 Lunges IC, 20 Merkins. Due to the lack of moonlight and my inability to remember the plan, we did 10 Merkins at stop 2 before I remembered it was supposed to be Peter Parkers. Repeat 4 corners coming back down the ladder: 20 Merkins, 15 Lunges IC, 10 Peter Parkers IC, 5 Burpees OYO.

Thang 2: Partner up for Catch Me If You Can. Partner 1 performs the movement while Partner 2 performs the exercise. One the exercise is complete, Partner 2 runs to catch up with Partner 1 at which point they flapjack. This continues until they reach the other end of the soccer field. After each round, we held plank for a 10 count and then sprinted back to the other side of the field. Rounds were as follows:

  • Rounds 1 and 2–Bear Crawl/10 Dry Docks
  • Rounds 3 and 4–Crab Walk/10 Jump Squats
  • Rounds 5 and 6–Bunny Hop/5 Burpees OYO (there were some fast bunnies out there trying to avoid being caught and doing their burpees)
  • For the 7th and final round partners collectively wheelbarrowed the length of the field, switching as needed.

Mary

  • LBCs x30 IC
  • Box Cutters x30 IC
  • Some PAX had brought a kickball up from the soccer field and introduced it into the Mary circle. YHC decided to put it to use. We circled up in plank and rolled the ball around, when the ball came to you it was 4 merkins with the ball under your hand (2 each hand).

  • Dec 21 is the Churham party in Chapel Hill

COT/BOM

Over the weekend we had some holiday family plans and I was a little zoned out at one point with my nose in my phone. My M kindly pointed that I needed to pay attention and get my nose out of my phone. It was a good reminder that, especially around the holidays, we need to make sure that we are present during family time and not tuned into some technology device. I see a potential New Year’s resolution coming for YHC to make it a point to put the phone away during family time after I get home for the evening. Until next time, Aye!

Moleskin

Post COT, Boyardee took it upon himself to try to return the kickball to the soccer field via what should have been a pretty easy punt, but shanked it across the parking lot and into the road. He rightly received a large helping of ridicule by the PAX for a job poorly done.
