Whats So Special About July 3rd?

July 3, 2019

WHEN: 07/03/2019
QIC: Nickelback & Muzungu
PAX: Toast McQueen, Pusher, Cortes, Halfback, Nubbin, Buffay (late but he made up for it with speed bear crawls)

America’s birthday was just around the corner – or was it? YHC did some investigative work in preparation for Qing duties (aka pulled up Wikipedia for 5 minutes) and learned that July 2nd might be a more appropriate day to celebrate Independence Day since this was the day of the actual vote in the Continental Congress. So why do we celebrate July 4th? This was the date that the final edits were approved and thus the date the publisher printed on top of the Declaration of Independence. So what should we celebrate on the morning of this Q on July 3rd?

Warm-up

  • Warm-up lap down the parking lot
  • Boxer Jumps (10 count IC)
  • Plank Walks (10)
  • Mosey to other side of parking lot
  • Bear crawl (86 times)

The Thang

The Pax circled up slightly confused of the previous bear crawl instructions. YHC had a theme. We held a squat position while YHC read out the following quote:

“The ______ of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epocha in the history of America. . . . It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward, forevermore.”

John Adams (letter to wife)

YHC asked the Pax to fill in the blank. The Pax guessed 3 times incorrectly before getting the answers of July 2nd! Here was the punishment:

  • Burpees (10 OYO)
  • Monkey Hummers (10 IC)
  • Burpees (10 OYO)

Now that we were educated, the pax moseyed to the football stadium. YHC then explained that now we needed to find out what happened on July 3rd. The answer: 86 edits were made to finalize the Declaration of Independence! YHC quickly learned 86 is a lot, even it’s multiple of 43 is a lot…who would have known. Here is what we did:

  • 1 Pax holding a rucksack with a 30lbs plate in it (honoring July 3rd x 10) completed 86 (nope) 43 (nope) 20 just right! Then once done they passed it to the next Pax member
  • Remaining Pax hopped up the steps and ran down

YHC congratulated the Pax. We had arrived at July 4th (in the story, YHC was committed to keeping time) and handed off Co-Q responsibility to Muzungu who promptly said “let’s take a victory lap!”

The Track: Lap 1

  • High Knees to double benches

  • Bear crawl to start point

The Track: Lap 2

  • Jog through the water to scoreboard
  • Merkins: 43
  • Sprint back to starting position

Prayers for safe travels over the holiday. 4th of July convergence in Churham coming!

C’mon this is good living. Q’ing the week of America’s birthday. The Pax brought it with energy and effort. Appreciate the opportunity to be in all week and enjoy the rich fellowship of the Northern Province
