What if? A throwback to opportunities missed

August 9, 2018

WHEN: 08/09/2018
QIC: Stop Drop & Roll
PAX: Botched, Stop Drop & Roll

Though tomorrow (8.10.2017) is the official calendar mark of my 1 year anniversary with F3, my heart very much thinks of today as that day. 364.25 calendar days ago I decided, possibly against my best judgement, to pull my out-of-shape ass out of bed and show up to this thing by myself – my only inspiration being a friend in F3Columbia who told me about it months before. The rest you’ve all doubtless heard from me at some point…

Partner sprints, run with some character named ‘shake it’, trys to keep up, who put this water main in the middle of the sprint?, dive forward, roll, keep running, ‘nobody saw that’ (*everybody sees that), Parker Whitehouse – FNG. . . Stop Drop & Roll. . .

And so quite possibly the longest and most difficult to say F3 name in Churham was born.

I sat last night thinking about what to do in honor of this, and I thought about a couple different options, but the one I settled on was one of the existential questions of life… what if… I thought back to the Thursdays before my first post, and the several Wednesday nights I sat up thinking ‘is this the day I finally get up in time to make it happen?’… And so I began to dig through and find the BB from one week prior to my first post…

Let me set the scene: The day was August 3, 2017. While fartsacking FNG Parker Whitehouse slept soundly in his bed, veteran Coco came to OCL to Q his 12/25th Master-Q AO…

It’s a classic example of a coco Q, complete with pyramids, running, trips well off campus, and rife throughout with jokes about blindside, it’s a must read (link here)… but the reason I think I wanted to replicate it most is because it forces me to face two of the lowest moments in my F3 experience… 1.) A much later Coco Q at OCL in which, 2.) a trip to UNC Wellness center pullup bars was made, at which farmer carrier/burpees/partner murphs forced me to eventually lay on the ground to avoid blacking out on the streets of meadowmont as Kitten waited with me (doing burpees the entire time so as to not miss the workout) and Big Cat raced ahead and drove back to pick me up… let’s just say I’ve come a long way.

SIDENOTE:

YHC was legitimately nervous no one would be there today, as the 3-4 regulars we have at OCL were all out of town this week… but I arrived to find a lone PAX, Botched, awaiting me. Only been out for 3 weeks and he’s posting at rates it took me months to achieve. Glad to have him… here we go!

Quick warmup

SSH x 10

WMH x 10

Imperial Walker x 10

Grass Grabbers x 10

And they’re off

Tour de meadowmont pyramid + mini pyramid in the middle + mini pyramid at the end.

My 10 dollar target watch doesn’t tell me 1/10 of a mile like Coco’s, so we just stopped every time I saw anything resembling a landmark to stop at for our pyramid (confused? Skim the inspiration Q here)

Stop 1: 1 BWS; 1 Burpee;   1 Box Cutter;   1 Merkin

Stop 2: 2 BWS; 2 Burpees; 2 Box Cutters; 2 Merkins

Stop 3: 3 BWS; 3 Burpees; 3 Box Cutters; 3 Merkins

Stop 4: 4 BWS; 4 Burpees; 4 Box Cutters; 4 Merkins

Stop 5: 5 BWS; 5 Burpees; 5 Box Cutters; 5 Merkins

Stop 6: 6 BWS; 6 Burpees; 6 Box Cutters; 6 Merkins

Arrrive at UNC Welness center – mosie to the dreaded pull up bars for our second pyramid of the day. Pull ups and Merkins. Start at 1:5, worked up to 6: 10, back down. Continue the run onto the paved path heading back to Rashki’s, begin working our up to 8.

Stop 7: 7 BWS; 7 Burpees; 7 Box Cutters; 7 Merkins

Stop 8: 8 BWS; 8 Burpees; 8 Box Cutters; 8 Merkins

Rest of the way our pyramid worked it’s way back down, as pyramids tend to do.

Hit 15/16 at the playground and PAX finished with a sprint to the top of the hill for the final 1.

Timing worked out beautifully – enough time for one more pyramid, so we mosied down to Meadowmont Park for our final pyramid and a Thoreauian view over the pond… Urkins and Dips (5:10, 6:15, 7:20) – stopped then worked our way down quickly just in time to hit 6:15.

TIME.

Big props to Botched for making the trip to OCL! We’re looking forward to seeing you out in the future!

COT/BOM: Each day we have an opportunity to get better. We could fail to use it, we could do something we’ve done before, OR we could look for something we’ve never tried before, something we struggle with. Make the tough choices to show up…
