18 PAX gathered at TBL and our feelings weren”t the only things gusty this morning. Akin to opening the card before the gift, 5 PAX trucked an extra credit ruck replete with Kroger pull-ups, Panera flutter kicks, the scaling of a probably-not-PAX-weight-bearing-ornamental-structure, and a dipsy-do around Mt. Moriah Rd.
Sweats assumed the first half Q hoping to avoid a sophomore slump, while Brady tagged in to finish the group (Sub-Zero would have been proud). In true Valentine”s Day spirit hearts were warmed and burdens were shed (mostly weight burdens onto the backs of other PAX). What with 20 degree temps and hearty, leveling gusts of wind, we had no choice but to get cozy.
The Thang:
Warm-up: All X30
- SSH
- Imperial Walker
- Merkins
- Sumo Squats
Carry me, I”ll carry you
We broke into As and BAEs, trading off exercises between the two groups – down to the other side (width-wise) of the field and back – in a sequence of sprints, carries, and other goodies. While your BAE was getting after it, you had Merkins and Air Squats to let you know that your Q still cared about you. It was a downright lovefest. Did I say lovefest? I meant slugfest. Somewhere in a dark alley Cupid wept.
- Sprints
- Buddy carries
- Fireman carries
- Bear crawls
- Lunges with hand claps above the head on each lunge
The Q decided to save the bridal carries for tomorrow…HEYO!
Intermission: Crazy in Love – I”m your A and you”re my BAE
As got Merkins, BAEs got Air Squats. AMRAP to prove how much you care. Whoever craps out first has to plead to the other to switch exercises. Repeatomundo until your magnanimous Q hands it over to Brady. It was really just the beginning, and love was in the air.
Brady takes the mic and gifts us a full (length-wise) field sprint suicide with stations at the ”18s, the ”50, and the other side. It was like a big box of chocolates. Except not at all. It was more like a box of pain truffles.
- ”18: 20 merkins
- ”50: 20 Carolina dry-docks
- ”18: a frog-like power-up push up which were bone- and soul-crushing, but also lovely and romantic depending on whether you”re a glass half-full/empty type
- End” 20 merkins
Love is a Rock
A heavy rock that shreds shoulders, that is. PAX circled up for a gruesome push press series. At this point, if I had them on me, I would have sent the Q a conversation heart saying, “#1 FAN”.
- 20 overhead presses
- 20 rows
- 15 Sun-Gods (push ups followed by overhead presses, starting at 1 each, crescendo to 15)
Finish: PRIX FIX MENU FOR $18
Don”t be a square and order the prix fix. Always go off-menu. That”s what we did anyway, or at least it felt like that. I always love it when my Q orders for me. PAX circled up and rotated four+ rocks around the group.
- First course: clockwise
- Second course: counterclockwise
- Third course: Flutter kicks, Russian hammers, and heels-to-heaven to finish.
Tclaps to Crockett for always showing up with the perfect prayer to send us out.
Hoping to get invited to Q again, but probably won”t.
