MAIN EVENT

Led PAX to the 3rd level of the Parking Garage. Circle up. Introduced our workout for this morning – “Nighthawks”. I came up with this workout on the eve of my 49th birthday while listening to Tom Waits’ “Eggs & Sausage In a Cadillac with Susan Michelson).” The workout is based on ascending and descending a series of pyramids.

Met Halfback when I Q’d @ Duck & Weave sometime last year. For those who are familiar, Halfback is our resident Mr. Hollywood. Many, many years ago, YHC sought fame and fortune in the entertainment industry – albeit on a much lower scale and profile than our good brother. I was given this solid bit of advice way back then, I believe playwright Wilson Mizner originated it: “Be nice to those you meet on the way up because you will most certainly meet them on the way down.” Wise, not only for those in the entertainment industry, but in any/every walk of life, really. Fits nicely for today’s fun fest.

Now I’m in a melodramatic nocturnal scene…

Now I’m a refugee from a disconcerted affair…

Now the lead pipe morning falls…” ~ T. Waits

Time to climb some pyramids. Run to the base of our first peak.

Pyramid One

  • Burpee+Merkin: Start with Single Merkin Burpee. Ladder up adding one Merkin with each Burpee, until we hit the top of the pyramid with a 10 Merkin Burpee. Descend the pyramid starting with a 10 Merkin Burpee, then reducing by one Merkin, finishing with a Single Merkin Burpee.
  • Run to next level up. Circle up for…

Pyramid Two

  • 8 Count Body Builder+Monkey Humper: Perform an 8 Count Body Builder (Merkin/Plank Jack Burpee), followed by a Single Monkey Humper. Ladder up adding one Monkey Humper with each 8 Count BB, until we hit the top of the pyramid with a 10 Monkey Humper 8 Count BB. Descend the pyramid starting with a 10 Monkey Humper 8 Count BB, then reducing by one Monkey Humper, finishing with a Single Monkey Humper 8 Count BB.
  • Run down a level. Circle up for…

Pyramid Three

  • 4 Count Mountain Climber/Alt Jump Lunge + Tuck Jump: Perform a 4 Count Mountain Climber, followed by a 1-2 Alt Jump Lunge, then a Single Tuck Jump. Ladder up by adding one Tuck Jump with each M.C./AJL combo, until we hit the top of the pyramid with a 10 Tuck Jump M.C./AJL. Descend the pyramid starting with a 10 Tuck Jump M.C./AJL, then reducing by one Tuck Jump, finishing with a Single Tuck Jump M.C./AJL.

BOM

Okey dokey, so, perhaps y’all figured out (I know Brick definitely did…), there was a theme to YHC’s workouts this week. Yup, the theme/plan was to offer up a word that captures the qualities that make for a good person. For this morning, I chose “virtuous.”

Virtuous is a great word and a fitting one to end this week as it really encompasses a number of great qualities. The virtuous person seeks honesty, benevolence, compassion, empathy, courage, prudence, temperance, humility, generosity, etc.

Confucius offers this up: “The superior man honors his virtuous nature, and maintains constant inquiry and study, seeking to carry it out to its breadth and greatness, so as to omit none of the more exquisite and minute points which it embraces, and to raise it to its greatest height and brilliancy.” Take this as you go about your day. Strive to be virtuous. Aye!

Prayers for Nickelback and his family on their trip abroad & for a safe return

Prayers for Milton’s M as she begins cancer treatment today. Prayers for healing, health, strength and peace as they begin this journey.

Again, good luck to our brother Buffay

** Final note: Next person who seeks the Trip Nip must come down to Chatham County for the hand off ceremony.
