The Purpose You Wish To Find

January 26, 2021

WHEN: 01/26/2021
QIC: Brotox
PAX: Vice, Quicken, Chum, Homegrown Berry, Buzzbait, Bumpdraft, Catskill, Beaujolais

YHC used to be a Jag faithful, but–for a variety of reasons–hasn’t been attending regularly these days.  Still, it was nice to be back on “the sh*tiest pavement in Churham” this morning.  Rain was in the forecast so YHC knew the fartsack-force would be strong amongst the PAX.  In an attempt to head this off at the pass, YHC encouraged PAX to get in their HC the day before and we had 10 HCs by sundown Monday.  Somehow, come Tuesday morning our HC count had mysteriously dropped to 8?!?  Like I said, the fartsack-force is strong.  All told, 9 souls braved the rain (and the forewarning that there would be plenty of running) and showed up anyway.

This morning’s musical selection was brought to us by Amazon Music’s “Rap Rock for Lifting” playlist.  Whatever the hell that means.

Warm-Up

  • 2 laps around the bus circle (bus circle = 1/6 mile)
  • Stretch whatever you want while details of The Thang are explained

The Thang

It’s the 26th of January and YHC is still trying to get to 100 miles for the month.  Unfortunately for the PAX at The Jag, that means we’ll be running today.  A lot.

  • 1 Mountain Climber IC.  Run a lap around the bus circle.  When you get back to the start go back to doing mountain climbers until the last PAX has returned.
  • 2 Imperial Walkers IC.  Run a lap around the bus circle.  Back to imperial walkers until the last PAX has returned.  You get the point–every time you return you go back to doing the exercise until everyone has completed a lap.  This is a way to keep everybody together while also keeping everybody working.
  • At this point YHC explained that every third round would be 3 Burpees and then each PAX would have the option to run a lap or just stay and do burpees instead.
  • 4 Side Shuffle Hops IC.  Run a lap.
  • 5 Monkey Humpers. Run a lap.
  • 3 Burpees.  Bettor’s choice to run or stay and do burpees.
  • 7 Seal Claps. Run a lap.
  • 8 Squat Jumps. Run a lap.
  • 3 burpees. Run or stay and do burpees.
  • 10 Merkins. Run a lap.
  • 11 Lunges. Run a lap. (Audible called. This was supposed to be WWIIs but nobody except Bumpdraft was interested in lying on the soaking wet pavement.)
  • 3 Burpees. Run or stay and do burpees.
  • 13 Squats. Run a lap.
  • 14 Wide Grip Merkins. Run a lap.
  • 3 Burpees. Run or stay and do burpees.  On this lap, Beaujolais and YHC discussed running vs staying and doing burpees and he confessed he’d rather run two miles than stay and do burpees!
  • 16 Dry Docks.  Run a lap.

If you’re counting along at home that’s 16 laps for those that chose to run all the burpee rounds, plus 2 laps during warmup for 18 total laps.  18 laps = 3 miles total.  Pretty darn good for a bootcamp workout, though YHC was told we were still 0.1 miles off the Churham bootcamp record.  Next time.

COT/BOM

One of YHC’s goals for the year is to read 12 books, one per month.  For January, it’s the 3rd autobiography of Michael J. Fox, and YHC has previously read the first 2.  Back when YHC read the first autobiography by Michael J. Fox (titled Always Looking Up) nearly 10 years ago, there was a quote that stood out and YHC has had it written on a sticky note ever since.  “The purpose that you wish to find in life, like a cure you seek, is not going to fall from the sky.”

YHC thinks about three things when he reads this quote, which he left with the PAX this morning:  1) what is the purpose you wish to find? 2) what ails you? / what do you need a cure for? and 3) what are you doing to seek these things out?

Until next time, aye!
