Stargazing while Bench Pressing

For EC, YHC, Chef Tell, Griswold and Nacho thought it would be fun to push the sled, jog a few hundred yards to the playground, perform 5×5 pullups, jog back, rinse and repeat 3 times.

The Thang:

Last night I looked in my garage and thought about what piece(s) of equipment I had not yet brought out to AMRAP. I stared at the bench, it stared at me. We had a mutual understanding. I had reservations about the safety of bench pressing in the dark, on potential uneven ground, in a timed workout. But, it had to be done. Stickman’s discovery of Tire Wars and the following directive to include it in a workout made for an easy choice with regard to whether or not we would sledge the tire or Do Battle! The rest of the stations came about organically, centered around the notion that no body part should go unworked.

PAX split into pairs and dove into 2 tabata circuits, working at each station for 2:10 work with 20 second transition.

Bench Press 135# / spotter
Alternating 30# Ruck 24″ Step Up
Sled Push
KB Swings 50# / Air Squats
Tire War
Single Arm 35#KB Clean and Press x 10 each side / Dips

For me, there was something majestic about being under the bar, staring up into the endless reaches of space, stars all about. I hope the other men were able to enjoy that moment until the tabata timer screeched and the real work began. I never imagined that bench pressing under the stars would be a bucket list item, but after today I say that it is and I’m glad to have done it.

BOM:

“If you do what is easy your life will be hard.
If you do what is hard your life will be easy”

AMRAP personifies this edict. It is easy to fartsack and avoid it altogether. It is easy to not push every last rep you can within the tabata format. However, the rewards of getting up and out there in the gloom and doing the hard work are immeasurable. Until next time!
