Seventeen PAX assembled at the Vortex for the simple pleasures of feeling the wind through their hair, pushing wheelbarrows on a beautiful spring day, and watching the sun rise. Unfortunately, they had to create the wind with their own two feet; take their turn as the wheelbarrow itself; and to do Bushwood flutter kicks as the sun rose. Many PAX also experienced the simple pleasure of realizing they were cleverer than YHC and saw the fatal flaw in his rotation scheme.
The vision was simple: two groups and two sets of exercises.
One group did full-field sprints, down and back, until the lead runner made five round trips. The goal was for every PAX to get at least four.
The second group did a continuous circuit in teams of four. One PAX did shoulder lifts with a cinder block; another PAX did burpees; and two PAX wheelbarrowed between the two. The fatal flaw, which likely requires an odd number to resolve (or some delightfully complex schema) is that rotations seemed to put the same PAX right back into the job he had left. Thus, burpees always returned to burpees, and cinder blocks to cinder blocks.
Each group did each set of exercises three times. The most magical part of the workout was how the sprints got progressively harder. So much harder. Bushwood”s 50 flutter kicks were a glorious way to finish.
Moleskin:
No question the greatest of the simple pleasures I experienced was the fellowship of such a good group of guys. Brilliant to see so many regulars out, and a treat to see Cheese Splint back, Tuco making a field trip across town, and Night Shift returning from a long hiatus. I have noticed that the PAX as a whole are getting leaner and faster. Aye!
