Respect The Classics

August 2, 2018

WHEN: 08/02/2018
QIC: Grunge
PAX: TB, Stop Drop & Roll, Tailspin, Varsity, Grunge

Picked up the last minute Q at OCL thanks to TB’s promo and announcement at Rameses yesterday. Truth is, OCL has been on my radar for a while now and given the changeover to new Site Qs (Congrats TB & Stop Drop & Roll!) I figured no better time than the present.

Wasn’t sure how many would post this morning, esp. after Coco-Fest last night. Was happy to see TB roll in a couple minutes after me. Stoked to see Varsity again, who I first met out at House of Pain a couple weeks ago. Pleasure meeting Tailspin. And kudos to Stop for posting this morning after downing a few He’s Not Here sized Beer Gulps.

Setting up to be an awesome morning with a solid band of brothers. Time to light this candle.

Intros. Fist Bumps.

One minute warning.

Circle up. No FNGs.

COMMUNION

Respect The Classics

Today’s workout focused on basic fundamentals. We paid homage to three classic F3 workouts: (1) Pyramids, (2) Four Corners, and a (3) Jacob’s Ladder. There is a reason why the classics are, well, classic. They are simple, straight forward, and they work. Crisp & clean, no caffeine.

  • Murph Pyramids

Moseyed over to the Rashkis playground and completed the following:

Round One: Pull Ups, 1 to 5 back down to 1. Total reps: 25.

Round Two: Merkins, 5 to 10 back down to 5. Total reps: 80.

Round Three: Squats, 10 to 15 back down to 10. Total reps: 135.

Mission completo. Next, moseyed back to the parking lot.

  • Four Corners

Outlined a large rectangle in the parking lot. At each corner, we performed 3 sets of exercises for 10 reps each.

Corner One (Upper Body): Standard Merkins, Dry Docks, Wide Merkins, x10 SC

Corner Two (Lower Body): Tuck Jumps, Alt Lunges, Squats, x10 SC (except Lunges were on my 1-2).

Corner Three (Core): WWIIs, Knee Ups, Flutter Kicks, x10 SC (except Flutters, IC).

Corner Four (Aerobic/Cardio): BW Thruster (Jump + OH Clap @ top), Spider Jump (aka Sherpee), x5. Finished off with 10 Burpees, OYO.

Modes of Travel: Ricky Bobby Bear Crawls (to Corners 1 and 3) & Crawl Bear (to Corners 2 and 4).

Done. Next, moseyed to the bottom of the Rashkis hill for our final classic workout…the…

  • Jacob’s Ladder

When @ OCL, one must utilize the hill. Keeping with the “classics” theme, we performed a nice, old fashioned Jacob’s Ladder. PAX ran up the nice, long hill and hit merkins up at the top, ran back down and hit squats at the bottom. Due to time constraints, we started with 5 Merkins/1 Squat vs. the full 7-1. YHC decided we all needed to finish strong, so called an audible for the PAX to crush one last additional round with 5 merkins & 5 squats. Awesome work by all.

CLOSING PRAYER

  • Kudos to TB and Stop Drop & Roll for taking on the Site Q role @ OCL
  • Stop Drop & Roll is setting up to Q 5 AOs, M-F, next week for his birthday. Support him, brothers! #HIM.

BOM

Wanted to share a word on maintaining perspective. Have you ever come up on a high dive (if you even see them anymore…) at a pool and stood at the bottom and thought to yourself, hey, that’s not so bad, but then when you climb to the top and look down, you suddenly feel like you’re on top of Mt. Everest and the pool looks like a postage stamp below? Maintaining the right perspective is absolutely critical. With the right perspective, even when things seem difficult or challenging, they still seem doable. But with a warped perspective, things can spiral out of control and panic can easily set in to derail you. Keep the mind straight and you keep your life straight.

I closed out with a prayer of gratitude for the beauty of the morning, for my F3 brothers, and for the gift of our bodies, minds, and spirits. Our body is a temple and every time we post in the gloom, we are honoring our temples and our Creator. I asked for blessings over all my brothers, that we are given guidance and strength to maintain proper perspective on all we do, today and every day, in our relationships, in our work, in our lives, so that we may continue to progress, find peace, and achieve all that are meant to.

I want to thank the brothers who came out this morning. Really enjoyed hitting the classics with this great band of brothers. I am loving the enthusiasm and energy that TB and Stop are bringing to OCL. This is an awesome AO with a ton of fun and awesome features. Brothers who have not hit this AO really should check it out. I am certain TB and Stop will do a great job as Site Qs. Great to see Varsity again. Way to crush it and make it look easy, brother. And big kudos to Tailspin for hanging tough and getting it done this morning. Great job! Awesome work by all. Thank you again. Until next time, aye!
