If you haven’t read Freed to Lead, the book by OBT and Dredd, founders of F3, you should. It’s a pretty good read, and gives some great background and understanding behind the stuff we do in the gloom each day. YHC decided to go back through it to catch up on some things, and while beginning to think about this workout, came across a paragraph that talked about each workout being like Pearls on a String. That idea gave me an idea for a workout. YHC had been caught up in trying to put together themes for my workouts, but maybe it was time to just string together some workout pearls while running through downtown Bull City.

When YHC arrived at the flagpole at City Hall several PAX had already congregated. By 0530, 11 PAX were on the scene ready for a Bull City beatdown. Here’s how it went:

Warm Up

SSH x 24

WMH x 12

Good Morning x 12

Imperial Walker x 12

Porta-John Chinooks x 12

Reverse Porta-John Chinooks x 12

The Thang

Mosey to the Aloft Lawn (green space between the Aloft and the American Tobacco Campus).

PAX lined up in a row, facing the Aloft.

Jack Jack Webbs (1:1:4 ratio of Merkins: Plank Jack: Overhead Presses), with a 90 degree rotation per rep. This allowed us to get in some Erkins, Derkins, R Hand Heavy, and L Hand Heavy. YHC escalated this up to 10:10:40 reps.

It was time to get to the next pearl… On to the ballpark.

PAX moseyed to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, more specifically to the stairs in left field that lead up to the Bull.

PAX performed a Jacob’s Ladder with WW2s at the top (starting at 10), and Body Weight Squats at the bottom (starting at 1). PAX held the low squat until the 6 wrapped up.

Time for the next pearl… Center field gate.

In the circle at the gate, the PAX circled up for a 5 Rep Monkey Humper Ring of Fire.

Mosey back to the flagpole for Mary.

Mary

100s

Boxcutter x 20

Flutter Kick x 40

Superman Ring of Fire x 10 count

COT

Durham 2nd F at Pour at 6:00 p.m. on 6/4.

Today’s Honey Badger was fairly lockerroom-esque with some comments about the Monkey Humper movement. A PAX wisely reminded all of us that F3 is for all men, and that we should sometimes reel in our comments to ensure we are truly the welcoming group to all men that we strive to be.

Prayers for Justice and his family as they expect 2.0 #4.

Prayers for travel and comfort for two members of Jeeve’s Family who are battling Stage 4 Cancer. Jeeves will be traveling to Michigan and Florida to help.

Read Freed to Lead, its good. If you have it, re-read it, there are some good nuggets in there. If you’re interested in leading a workout, please do. You can do it. As always I appreciate the opportunity to lead this group of men.
