May 29, 2017

WHEN: 05/29/2017
QIC: F3Churham
PAX: Big Sky, Bunyan, Dueling Banjos, Duplo, Eddie The Eagle, Goat Cheese, Grunge, Horny Toad, John-Boy, Link, Mothman, No Money, SCUBA

Four men were doing EC ruck, then 14 converged for an hour of wonderment.

History Lesson
Quick talk about Memorial Day and reminder to be mindful of the sacrifice others (no matter their race, political party, creed, religion, or orientation) have made for us and our country.
The QIC decided to dust off his history degree and gave a quick summary of the October 1780 battle that happened a couple hours drive away.

But mostly the history lesson was a great reason to do a ton of Mountain Climbers.

Warm Up
SSH
Mountain Climbers
8-Count Bodybuilders (which were performed and counted to perfection)
Arm circles
At this point the QIC yelled enough with the arithmetic, let”s get to the Mountain!

The Thang
The workout was a one hour simulation of that October day in 1780.
Stage One: The modern day Overmountain men needed to cross over the mountains.

  • Run from Parking lot to base of the ”Mountain”
  • Lunge Walk up to the crest (a safe distance past the portelette)
  • Mountain Climbers – 10 IC

Stage Two: Pick up some heavy duty ordinance (aka big rocks). Rocks/Weight to symbolize the ”burden” that has been passed to us from those that sacrificed their lives for our freedoms. The burden is to live the best life we can and help make the lives of others better.

  • The PAX carried their ordnance down the other side of the mountain at their own pace.
  • At the other side some Merkins or Mountain Climbers were performed.

Stage Three: Assault King”s Mountain.

  • First assault, pair up and while one partner walk lunges (calvary) the other bear crawls (infantry) back up to the crest of the mountain.
    • At top, plank or get the Six.
    • First assault was repulsed with casualties, so back down the mountain
    • Partner buddy carries (switch as needed) out and back about 50 yards each way)
  • Second Assault, bringing the heavy ordnance. PAX grab their rocks and slog up the mountain
    • At top, plank or get the Six.
    • More Mountain Climbers
    • Second assault was repulsed, so back down the mountain.
    • Partner buddy carries (switch as needed) out and back about 75 yards each way)
  • Third assault, pair up and while one partner walk lunges (calvary) the other bear crawls (infantry) back up to the crest of the mountain.
    • At top, plank or get the Six.
    • Third assault was a SUCCESS
    • Probably more Mountain Climbers

Stage Four: Fortify Position

  • PAX grab their rocks and slog about 100 yards to cache them
  • Probably some more Mtn Climbers
  • PAX takes a nice little jog around scouting for better areas for fortification
  • End up back at rock Cache, and per Orders from Gen. Washington, ordnance to be taken back down the mountain and cached for any other future QIC in need.
  • Swing by the pavilion for quick Dips (17 in Cadence) and 80 LBC (OYO)

Post Workout EC
Trail run. 4-5 men left the workout with enough energy for a joyful jaunt along the BC trails.
